On Sunday morning, hubby and I left our Senior Club meeting location in Edison, New Jersey. This trip was through Diamond Tours and compared to the last two trips we have been on, this was truly the best. It was a six night, seven day trip which gave us a stopover night in Independence, Ohio for the first and last nights. We stayed at the Hyatt in Independence that had a great 42" television that was right up my hubby's alley. Although there were not a lot of channels (I'm spoiled), we got to see some things we would never watch. The continental breakfast was excellent and nicely done. The breakfast seating area was a bit awkward, but the lobby had lots of seating to use as a dining area. There were three toasters for bagels, toast and English muffins, donuts, cereals, juices, and my favorite, fresh fruit.
The topping on the cake was the Best Western Plus Chicago in Hillside, Illinois, a few miles from downtown Chicago. Although the size of the television was a disappointment after the great TV in the Hyatt, we got over it quickly. The hotel was elegant and the buffet breakfast was incredible. Every day we had a hot breakfast; eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, French toast and even a waffle maker for a great Belgian waffle in only minutes, fresh fruit, cereals, Danish, muffins, and delicious coffee. For us early birds, it was ready early and always delicious. We even had dinner there the first night and the service was good, the food was not as good as breakfast, but it passed the test.
I am pleased to say that each hotel was equipped with Wi-Fi, so I got to submit my assignments on time. Being a television writer, it was a godsend to hook up to their system without charge. The beds were comfortable in both places, and cleanliness was of the utmost. One question I do have is why the bathroom doors are so big and level with the floor and leave little room for bathmats and toes?
