Bushisms on Life from 2006: George W. Bush's Interacted World

Nuc-u-lar Learnings of America!

Suri Cruise
Ah, how Dan Quayle must rue the fact that he was stuck with the wrong George Bush to serve his term as Vice President of the United States under! But for the difference of one generation and a pesky middle initial, Quayle could have happily placed an "e" on the end of any old vegetable he liked, and the American people would never have had the time to even notice- they would be far too busy keeping tabs on the fantastically inane "Bushisms" of the current President George Bush- President George W. Bush, that is!

The list of Bushisms is exhaustive. Collections of our fearless leader's curious and confused ramblings abound on the Internet and in print. About.com's Daniel Kurtzman keeps an excellently up-to-date collection of Bushisms. With so many befuddled Bushisms out there, I have decided to narrow down some of his eck-a-lec-tic chatter.

With 2006 now drawn to a close, let's take a look back at some of George W. Bush's "thoughts" about life.

2006 Bushisms on Life: On Culture and Stuff
"Occasionally. One of the things I've used on The Google is to pull up maps. It's very interesting to see- I've forgot the name of the program- but you get the satellite, and you can, like... I kinda like to look at the ranch. It remind me of where I wanna be sometimes." (George W. Bush responding to CNBC's Maria Bartiromo's question about whether or not he had ever used Google. October 24, 2006)

"I said I was looking for a book to read, Laura said you ought to try Camus. I also read three Shakespeares. I've got a eck-a-lec-tic reading list." (George W. Bush to NBC's Brian Williams. August 29, 2006)

"We shouldn't fear a world that is more interacted." (George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. June 27, 2006)

"I think it's really important for this great state of baseball to reach out to people of all walks of life to make sure that the sport is inclusive. The best way to do it is to convince little kids how to... the beauty of playing baseball." (George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. February 13, 2006)

"I'll be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven't seen the movie. I've heard about it. I hope you go- you know- I hope you go back to the ranch and the farm is what I'm about to say." (George W. Bush, responding to being asked whether he's seen Brokeback Mountain. January 23, 2006)

2006 Bushisms on Life: Missing the Big Picture, a Lot
"And I suspect that what you'll see, Toby, is there will be a momentum- momentum will be gathered. Houses will begat jobs, jobs will begat houses." (George W. Bush in the hurricane-ravaged Gulfport, Mississippi. August 28, 2006)

George W. Bush: "Peter. Are you going to ask that question with shades on?"
Peter Wallsten: "I can take them off."
George W. Bush: "I'm interested in the shade look, seriously."
Peter Wallsten: "All right, I'll keep it, then."
George W. Bush: "For the viewers, there's no sun."
Peter Wallsten: "I guess it depends on your perspective."
(George W. Bush chiding a Los Angeles Times reporter, who is legally blind, for wearing sunglasses in Washington, D.C. June 14, 2006)

"It's a heck of a place to bring your family." (George W. Bush, in New Orleans, Louisiana. January 12, 2006)

2006 Bushisms on Life: One of the Boys
"If people want to get to know me better, they've got to know my parents and the values my parents instilled in me, and the fact that I was raised in West Texas, in the middle of the desert, a long way away from anywhere, hardly. There's a certain set of values you learn in that experience." (George W. Bush in Washington, D.C., May 5, 2006)

"I like my buddies from west Texas. I liked them when I was young, I liked them then I was middle-age, I liked them before I was president, and I like them during president, and I like them after president." (George W. Bush in Nashville, Tennessee. February 1, 2006)

"You took an oath to defend our flag and our freedom, and you kept that oath underseas and under fire." (George W. Bush, addressing war veterans, in Washington, D.C. January 10, 2006)

"As you can possibly see, I have an injury myself- not here at the hospital, but in combat with a cedar. I eventually won. The cedar gave me a little scratch. As a matter of fact, the Colonel asked if I needed first aid when she first saw me. I was able to avoid any major surgical operations here, but thanks for your compassion, Colonel." (George W. Bush, after visiting with wounded veterans from the Amputee Care Center of Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. January 1, 2006)

2006 Bushisms on Life: He Sees Dead People
"Make no mistake about it, I understand how tough it is, sir. I talk to families who die." (George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. December 7, 2006)

"I tell people, let's don't fear the future, let's shape it." (George W. Bush in Omaha, Nebraska. June 7, 2006)

"You never know what your history is going to be like until long after you're gone." (George W. Bush in Washington, D.C. May 5, 2006)

  • This list only scratches the surface of George W. Bush's Bushisms on life.
  • Look for my examination of the great orator's Bushisms on war and politics.
Showing a scratch he got from a cedar tree may not be the most engaging way of bonding with a group of wounded war veterans at an amputee care center. I could be wrong about that.
