One of the coolest technology gadgets to hit the market is a business card scanner. Just as the name implies, they are a small scanner which will scan in a business card and make a digitial file with the information from the business card. From this digital information you can easily send the information from the scanner to your contact lists and databases in a number of PC and handheld applications.

Gone are the days of having piles of other people's business cards cluttering up your desk space. Now you can simply scan them in, move them into a contact database, and toss the card in the trash.

Business card scanners come from a variety of computer hardware vendors. Business card scanners also come in a wide range of functionality and price.

Here are some examples of great business card scanners to consider:

IRIS Business Card Reader II - Black and While 600 x 600 dpi optical resolution, price $150-$170

Visioneer CardReader 100 Business Card Scanner - Fast, easy and simple with a low cost of about $100.

IRIS Color Business Card Reader II - Scans business cards in color, price $170.

Microtek Scan-in-Dex Business Card Scanner - Black and White 400 x 600 dpi, price $60.00

CardScan Executive Business Card Scanner - Scans with the highest dpi available in color, price $360.

As you can see there is a wide variety of business card scanners currently on the market. Business card scanners vary in both their scan resolution and how well they can covert the scanned text into useable data for you via their OCR technologies. As a general rule, the higher priced business card scanners offer the most flexibility as to compatible devices, compatible applications and quality of their scan and OCR text conversion.

Business card scanners make great gifts for executives and owners of small businesses. They serve to reduce clutter and make information easily available on a PC or handheld device rather than having to dig through a pile of bulky business cards.
