Simple Ways to Keep Employees in the Loop and Off the Roof
Monthly Newsletters
One of the most traditional forms of communicating business activities with employees is the newsletter. This newsletter is published on a monthly or quarterly basis. It contains general information about what the company has been doing over the last period and what it will be doing in the coming periods. For example, it may contain information about employee analyses that were conducted, it may post a profits and loss statement, it may announce employee birthdays and it may also announce job openings. Newsletters are inexpensive to publish and they are simple to distribute.
Company Blogs
A new twist on the printed newsletter is the company blog. Company blogs are great for inspiring complete communication between the company and its employees. Employees can use the blog to learn about company activities and to voice their opinions about these activities. Employers can use the blog to make announcements, to dispel rumors and to engage with their employees about current issues that are impacting work relationships and productivity.
Information Meetings
Another option that businesses have is the information meeting. These meetings are established as a forum in order to address critical changes or concerns that are impacting the company. Here key members of the staff or the entire staff of the organization can be invited. The meeting will start out with a presentation by the organization. This presentation will explain the concern or change and how it will impact each segment of the company. After the presentation questions can be taken and management can respond to them. Employee reactions can also be expressed at this meeting.
Communication
Communicating with employees is essential to a smooth operation. The timing of communication, the format of the communications and content of the information, however, needs to be crafted to make it a positive experience, as opposed to a negative one. To make communications more effective the company's communication manager needs to be involved so that the communications can be crafted to fit the needs of the employees and the organization.

I couldn't agree more with the theme of this article. Making sure your employees are always informed and have that knowledge at their fingertips not only improves the work environment, but their opinion of the company/organization.
