Factors Considered in Business Ethics Policy Development: A Pre-formulation Survey
When a company is carrying out a business ethics development policy, it has to carry out a pre-formulation survey. This is a research exercise which provides a platform within which the ethics are devised from. It puts into consideration the following factors;
Employee moral values
Carrying out employee moral survey provides an in-depth understanding of the moral values and their expectations. Any organization that undermines the moral standards of the workers infringes on their rights of believe of what is right or wrong. For instance, it would be wrong for a hotel organization to accept guests and customer personal relationships while on duty.
Customer moral values
Customers provide the lifeline of a business existence. Customers consume products and buy services of companies which present their moral values correctly before setting up ethical code of conduct; an organization should research on the kind of clientele it will be dealing with. For instance, an airline operating from New York through United Arab Emirates to Mumbai, India usually handles clients from different cultural and religious backgrounds. The staff should display a code of conduct that is acceptable by these people. For example the dress code of the airline staff should be a standardized to meet the morals values of these different travelers.
Organization goals and objectives
Any organization works towards realizing their set goals and objectives, standard operation procedures and company rules and regulations are devised on order to shape their moral ethical presentation. Ethics are usually behavioral and situational in nature. They are applies within the knowledge of what is right or wrong. A company that has e development goal of expanding its wings of operation in different geographical locations should incorporate within its cultural ethics, the different customers it will be dealing with.
State laws governance
Companies should carry out a research on the government laws that are put in place within the area of operation. State laws are enforced by different departments in the government. For instance, there are laws governing the employment and termination of employment by companies. There are also codes of conducts that govern the activities of the companies that may be destructive to the environment such as air, water and land pollution. Different states may have varying ethical requirements and it is upon an organization to research the state laws requirement in ethical code of conduct.
Societal norms and moral value
The external environment in a business subject involves both the business competitors and surrounding society. A company should carry out a research to determine the ethical requirements it should put in place in its policy framework. A beach tourist hotel operating in a particular region should set ethical standards that safe guard the neighboring community. For instance, the hotel should not accept young girls being exploited by the clients it is hosting such as in sexual practices.
