Business Owner Has a Tragic Super Bowl Weekend

During Super Bowl weekend, in Glendale, Arizona, most businesses were swarmed with traffic that they don't normally get. Although it would seem like this would bring more money and more success to the business itself, that is not always the case.

In this article, you will read an interview I conducted with the owner of a local burger shop who suffered from the business the Super Bowl XLII where the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots.

1. Did Super Bowl XLII affect your business at all? If it did, did it have a positive or negative impact?

Yes, it really did affect our business. A lot was learned on my part as the owner, and even our employees who have been with us for years have learned more about handling situations like the ones we were put in during that weekend. I would say it had a positive and a negative impact on us.

2. Did you, and if you did, how did you prepare for Super Bowl weekend?

We always have extra food ordered when a big event is going to be coming to town, so we did prepare. However, we did not prepare enough. There could have been so many more things done to help our business out during this weekend, however because we didn't anticipate the amount of people that came into our shop, we lost out on cash and even lost the confidence of some customers.

3. Did Super Bowl weekend business help you out or hurt you?

Well it helped us out in the way that, we were able to sell everything we had, but it hurt us because of that same reason. Halfway through Sunday, when we were starting to get rushes every 20-30 minutes, we ran out of burger buns and were no longer able to sell burgers. This hurt our business, because most people left right when they heard that.

4. Did you have any promotions going for Super Bowl weekend?

No. We did not do any promoting for Super Bowl weekend, because we knew that people would come in either way. Every time an event is held in town, that attracts big crowds, we get more business done during those days. This time it was different though. We did not anticipate the crowds we got, and that is what hurt us the most.

5. What's the most memorable thing about Super Bowl weekend for you as a business owner and as a member of this community?

As a business owner, my most memorable memory from Super Bowl weekend will be the feeling I had when I couldn't get more supplies to fulfill all of the orders that people were placing at my establishment. I was desperate, and that's a feeling that's very hard to forget, so that is what I will carry on, as a learning experience.

As a member of this community I will carry on the feeling I had during the last couple of seconds of the game, when I knew my team was going to win. It was so exciting to see everyone going crazy on TV, and it was nice to be able to tell my friends, who are Patriot's fans, "Ha-ha, we beat you!"
