It is not just get a new interior or a new idea but it is a complete turn around of the existing system you have been working with. First you study your existing system in and out, the way you manage your client, your records, your order processing, ware housing, your communication process, finance, man power and anything else that comes under your work. Write it all down, make charts if that is easy for you.
The second step is applying BPR, upgrade yorself find out what is new in your line of work, new products, new technology, anything that has changed for the better. Now make a list of all the things that need change, educate your employees upgrade them if it increases their productivity, find out what is new in your line of work, try and reason out why somebody doing the same thing is earning better than you are, analyse your working process and re-engineer it, find better and cheaper means of advertising use the web. There may be a lot you can do and than there may be a few changes that can make a big difference.
Also, when you start re-engineering your business do keep this in mind that change of any kind takes time to settle in, your new system may take some time to work itself out. Always keep the ends in your mind and then make the correct way to reach the end.
Let us take John & Marcel both were running a successful catering business for some years. Then one day Marcel decided it was time for some change, she felt they could earn more if they made the right changes. They held a meeting John, Marcel, the chef and the three men that worked for them.
This is what they applied to their business, they got a small website about their business, now more people know they exist and Marcel learned the fine art of negotiating things on mail. Also they upgraded their kitchen with a new oven that got their chef going. It saved a lot of time and was more spacious then its previous model. One of the man learned driving and got a driving liscense, so now he made the deliveries when John or Marcel had other important things to do. It took a few days to put things in order, make the changes but in three months their profits showed that the effort was worth it.
The third and the final step is keeping the new system going, often times we make the changes but then fail to cope with them. This is the most important part of Re-engineering if you make the changes then make those changes work for you as well.
