Business Promotion and Learning Through Twitter

I'm pretty new to Twitter myself, but by doing a quick search for ESL on Twitter, I was able to find several other users who use Twitter to promote their ESL business. They did so by providing great tips for speakers of other languages who are trying to learn English. What a way to stay connected with people around the world who are trying to improve their English skills? A businessperson in Asia can learn a new vocabulary word, or watch a video posted about a cultural aspect of an English-speaking country from his or her mobile device.

It's been said that old fashioned word of mouth is the best way to increase business. Pounding the pavement by attending industry conferences or local small business associations' luncheons are great ways to let people know your business is out there, and this will probably drum up some great business for you. Once you complete a transaction or service for those you meet through networking, you will probably receive more and steadier clients through recommendations from those with whom you networked.

Take this a step further though. If you're utilizing social media such as Facebook and Twitter, you're increasing the potential range of word of mouth referrals many times over. Some non-profits have entire volunteer and paid positions devoted to increasing the organization's visibility via the Internet. Some businesses do the same. If you're a one man or one woman show in your small business, it might seem like establishing a Twitter account might take a lot of time out of your already busy day.

However, setting up an account for you business and posting some relevant and useful information for potential clients is very quick and easy to do. I just started one for my business in literally under five minutes. I even found a few other people in my same industry by doing a quick search, and I plan to "follow" them and their posts to learn more all I can about my field of work, especially since part of my business is conducted over the internet.

Twitter and Facebook offer two more great options to expose the world to your business and the great work that it does. They also offer another way for you to become more knowledgeable about your markets, your industry's trends, and maybe even to get an online mentor for your business with whom you can communicate regularly.
