Businesses See Clear Benefits to Cloud Computing

Deborah Woehr
Cloud computing is becoming more popular as more businesses are seeing clear benefits to how they can run their operations. What are the benefits of cloud computing? First, let's educate you on what cloud computing is. When I first heard the term about four years ago, I associated it with Web 2.0 because the term came right about the same time. As it turned out, I wasn't too far off.

Cloud computing allows you to work on your documents from any mobile device with an Internet connection. Examples of cloud computing are online accounting programs such as QuickBooks Online or free services such as Google Docs.

Reduced Cost

You pay a monthly subscription fee to access some of these sites, such as the QuickBooks Online. There is no software to download. All you have to do is enter your transactions, and you're done.

Also, you do not need to spend any more money on software updates because the program is online. With other cloud computing programs, you pay for only what you use.

Increased Storage

Because you do not have to install the software that you can use online, you have more room on your computer to store data, should you need to do so.

The burden of hardware is also lifted because you do not have to invest in expensive servers and equipment to keep your business running. The third party cloud vendor handles all of that for you.

Automated Updates

Your IT department no longer has to worry about keeping your software up to date because there is no physical software to update. That responsibility falls on the cloud vendor. As a result, IT can shift its focus on project innovations instead of hardware and software issues.

Mobility

Thanks to cloud computing and its capabilities, you are no longer chained to your office or to one machine in order to complete your day's work. You can literally work at the beach or by your pool at home, if you want. Access your personal files from anywhere you happen to be and share your documents with your colleagues.

Conclusion

Cloud computing offers many benefits to personal users as well as business enterprises. The costs of cloud computing are usually cheaper than traditional computing. You are able to scale your operations to suit your needs, and you may take your business anywhere you need to be.
