Busta Rymes was initially pulled over by New York police between midnight and 1 am eastern time. According to Sgt. Mike Wysokowski, the reason was that the car he was driving had windows that were too dark.
When the police spoke with Busta Rymes they could smell alcohol on his breath. This resulted in the rapper being arrested for the suspicion of driving under the influence.
When questioned about the drink driving charges Busta Rymes' lawyer declined to make a statement and said that he would be discussing the incident in court. Attempted contact with Busta Rymes' manager has also proved fruitless.
This is the most time in recent, in a number of incidents, over the last few months that 34 year old Busta Rymes, has found himself in trouble with the law. Sgt. Wysokowski has said that an arraignment will be held for the charges again Busta Rymes sometime today.
Beside today's drink driving charges Busta Rymes is facing two charges of assault. One of the charges claims that last summer on August 12 Busta Rymes assaulted a fan following a performance. Apparently the fan that was assaulted spat on Rymes' car. The performance in question occurred on Randalls Island and was called the 'AmsterJam' Music Festival'.
The second charge against Busta Rymes claims that the rapper attacked his former driver by kicking him and beating him near Rymes' New York City office. The driver, Edward Hatchett, who is 39, is thought to have been in the middle of a pay disagreement with Rymes at the time.
Last February Busta Rymes found him self spending a little time in prison after he was stopped by police after he went through a red light. When police stopped him they found that the rapper's license was suspended.
The current date for the trial of these assault charges is set for next Tuesday. This trial follows an earlier verdict on the assault, which was withdrawn after the February arrest. The first verdict spared Rymes a stint in prison and instead offered the rapper community service and being put on probation.
Busta Rymes has also been connected to the murder of , Israel Ramirez, his bodyguard. Ramirez was shot to death just over one year ago. Police investigating the case have been trying to question Rymes about the incident.
Busta Rymes is well known for his contributions to rap music. Some of his biggest hits include "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See and Dangerous and Touch It." The rapper's birth name is Trevor Smith.
