Butterball Turkey Bacon is Tasty, Low in Fat and Economical

Consumer Product Review

Thomas J McCabe

For several weeks recently, I really wanted to cook and eat some bacon and eggs at home, but the price of bacon lately has been higher than I am willing to pay. When I happened to notice Butterball Turkey Bacon on sale at a local grocery store last week, I purchased a package of it and I'm glad that I did so.

Presented here, as a service to the consumer at large, is an article which reviews and examines Butterball Turkey Bacon.

Size
The net weight of the package of Butterball Turkey Bacon being reviewed here is 12 ounces. The package contains 18 one slice (14 grams) servings of turkey bacon. In physical size, the package is flat and fairly small and it does not take up excessive space in one's refrigerator or freezer.

Price
The regular retail price charged for one 12 ounce package of Butterball Turkey Bacon at Hartford, Connecticut area supermarkets ranges between $3.29 - $4.39, which I think is a huge disparity. When I recently purchased a package of this turkey bacon, it was on sale for $2.59 per package, which seems like a very reasonable price to me.

With the retail price of pork bacon being sky high now, this product seems to be a real economical alternative to the higher priced pork bacon.

Texture
While the texture of Butterball Turkey Bacon is pleasant and meaty, its texture is definitely not identical to that of regular pork bacon. It seems to me that this turkey bacon offers more meat and less fat than many varieties of pork bacon, but its texture seems moister and a little more grainy than that of pork bacon. It also does not seem to get quite as crispy as pork bacon. The overall mouth - feel offered by this turkey bacon is pleasant, but it does take some getting used to, in order to really appreciate it.

Nutritional Facts
Butterball Turkey Bacon contains 25 calories, with 15 calories from fat, per one slice serving. This bacon also contains 0.5 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams trans fat, 1.5 grams total fat, 10 mg of cholesterol, 135 mg of sodium, 0 grams total carbohydrates, 0 grams of dietary fiber, 0 grams of sugars and 2 grams of protein, per one slice serving.

Taste / Flavor
Before I recently purchased a package of Butterball Turkey Bacon, I had never eaten turkey bacon before. Actually, I was hesitant in trying it, because I was unsure if I would like the taste or texture that it offered. After trying this product, I am pleased to say I think it is a very good substitute for pork bacon.

Interestingly, I have not really detected the flavor of turkey in this bacon. Instead, what I have tasted mostly is bacon flavor. The bacon tastes better than I expected it to, especially when it is cooked until crisp. On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign this product a rating of 8.75.

Packaging
Butterball Turkey Bacon is packaged in a standard type plastic bacon container. The blue front label, which covers roughly one third of the package, shows an illustration of some cooked turkey bacon and the rear label lists all pertinent ingredient and nutritional information.

Appearance
This turkey bacon does resemble pork bacon in appearance, but the slices seem to contain more meat than fat, than many varieties of pork bacon. The meat in Butterball Turkey Bacon is slightly lighter in color than most varieties of pork bacon.

Overall Rating
If you're a fan of regular pork bacon, it might take a little adjustment to become used to the flavor of turkey bacon, but with the huge disparity in price, it might be worth switching to Butterball Turkey Bacon.

Because it is a Butterball product, you can rest assured that this turkey bacon is a tasty, high quality item. Available at many food retailers across America, this reasonably priced, low fat turkey bacon is a recommended product.
