Buttermilk doesn't sound like something that would tickle your taste buds, but you can bet if a recipe calls for it, then it is probably pretty dang good. A favorite down south is the buttermilk pie. Extraordinarily simple and cheap to make, it will be asked for at any gathering or get-to-together. Serve it with you favorite ice cream or top it off with heavy cream.

1 cup buttermilk
2 cups sugar
½ cup butter
1 teaspoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup coconut (optional)

2. Cream together sugar and butter.
3. Add flour and coconut, if using. Mix well.
4. Add buttermilk and vanilla. Mix well.
5. Pour into pie crust.
6. Bake until set and golden brown.
