Buttocks augmentation is a surgical procedure essentially performed for aesthetic reasons. In this type of procedure the patient has the options to choose from. The patient may choose to go for either an elastomeric silicone filled implant surgery or a series of fat redistribution procedures to augment the buttocks. This article intends to assist the potential patients in making their choice by providing them with some basic information regarding the types of procedures they could choose from.

Fat Grafting

In this procedure, a combination of liposuction and fat grafting is employed to sculpt the torso and buttocks area. By harvesting the fat from the areas where it is unwanted and redistributing it where it is needed, the procedure hits two birds with one stone. Since the purified fat used is extracted from the patient's own body, the risk of rejection is eliminated. Depending on the patient's decision there may be a need to undergo a significant number of injections, which are placed at different sites and depths in the buttocks.

Implants

The surgical procedure for buttocks augmentation employs the use of elastomeric implants which is considered to be stronger that the typical breast implant because it cannot leak. By using a small incision in the area above the sitting area muscles as well as below the surrounding facia the implants are kept securely in place. Recovery for this type of procedure is usually runs at around for weeks but before this the patients is not allowed to do any strenuous work. The visibility of the post operation scar(s) would gradually be reduced until it fully disappears approximately a year after the operation.
