Ball
An easy Christmas ornament that you can make with buttons is a ball. For this craft you will need several buttons, glue, wire, scissors, and a foam ball. Start by cutting the wire into several 1 inch sections. Fold the sections in half.
Then help kids add some glue to the back of a button and thread the wire through the button holes. Push the wire into the foam ball and press the button to secure. If you do not have wire you can substitute with a hot glue gun, but be sure to be safe with younger kids. Cover the entire ball and add a piece of wire or ribbon to the ball in the same fashion so it can be hung up.
Wreath
Another nice Christmas ornament that can be made using buttons is a wreath. For this craft you will need wire, scissors, green buttons, and red ribbon. Start by cutting the wire into two equal lengths about 6-10 inches long. Then twist the ends of the wire into small loops.
Help kids string buttons on the two piece of wire by putting each piece of wire into its own hole on the button. When kids have filled almost the entire piece of wire push the ends through the loops. Wrap the free ends around the loops to connect the wire and form a round wreath shape. Make sure you wrap the wire securely.
Tie the ribbon around the area where the wire connects in the shape of a bow. You can help kids tie a piece of ribbon into a loop around the area before you add the bow if you like as well, but the ornament can be hung using the hole in the wreath as well. This Christmas ornament is fun for kids and an inexpensive craft as well.
Creating ornaments with your kids is the perfect way to celebrate and remember the Christmas season. These crafts use buttons which can be found cheaply for the holiday season.
