STAGGER SHOPPING
This kind of shopping is done a little bit over time and helps so that the whole blow of the cost of school supplies doesn't happen in one shopping trip. What you do is pick some things off your kids school supplies lists and buy some each grocery trip you run. Some things might be on sale one week and not the next so keep that supply list with you or keep it in the car. Schools will put supply lists online and you can always get a copy by calling your local school district to either get a list before school or get a number to someone who has a list. Make sure when you get home to put the school supplies in the same place and label it as you go so the labeling task isn't huge at the first day of school. Also, save lists from previous grades if you have younger siblings. Most teachers will just use the same list. Some stores will also carry school lists at the store like Wal-Mart.
BULK DEALS
There are great deals you have to look for but usually stores will have them every year like ten cent glue sticks. One of the best deals I have seen is the spiral notebooks for ten cents deal. This is a great deal and most of them are seventy sheets. Seventy sheets times five is three hundred and fifty sheets for fifty cents. Most notebook paper is fifty cents for two hundred and fifty sheets. If you have perforated edges you can use it as note book paper and it is cheaper.
BUY AFTER SEPTEMBER
Keeping old school lists comes in handy If you have multiple kids because you can use the old lists and even the recent ones to buy supplies and store it they might need for next year. When supplies aren't bought by September they go on sale even further because the retailers need the shelf space for Halloween. Use this time to get some killer deals on binders and back packs. I got some binders that were ten dollars for only one dollar during liquidation sales.
RESALE SHOPS
Believe it or not resale shops will sell things like binders and pens. They also sell school supplies you might not think of like sports equipment and things needed for extra curricular activities.
With these tips you should be armed to the teeth to save money before that first school bell rings!
