First step you need to do is make sure your niche is a buying niche.
Most people are so eager to find a niche they feel has no competition, they often overlook whether or not this niche is profitable. You do not want to spend all of your time writing content for a niche not interested in spending any money. One strategy to use when trying to discover if a niche is profitable is to look at competition for specific keywords. This is very simple to do, typically when you are looking at the search engines, check on the side to see if there are any advertisements.
The more advertisements there are the more chance the niche is spending money. You can also check the cost of these ads, the higher the cost the more likely you'll be able to make money from this niche. You want to be careful though if you don't see any advertisements, this could mean there is no money to be had in this niche. Surely if there was money to be had some savvy marketer would've discovered it by now and would be using pay per click advertising to drive traffic.
And remember, every niche can be a buying niche if you target the right keywords. Look for ones you would type in if you were looking to purchase a product, not simply looking for information. And the more detailed the keyword, the more likely you will have targeted buying traffic. For example, "breadmakers" is not a buyers keyword, they are still in the research stage but "Zojirushi BBC X20" shows they have already done their research and are now looking to purchase. These are the type of keywords you want.
Good niche research as a basic article marketing strategy is definitely something you're going to need to learn. Once you're able to weed out unprofitable niches then you will be able to make your marketing efforts count for much more.
