Be sure to do research on the individual cars you're interested in so that you don't overbid.

If you're going to a live auction near you, make sure to take advantage of the inspection day. This is the time where you can check out the cars (probably not test drive) that are up for sale. Look them over, write down the ID number, and find a car history report online. Make sure you're looking at a quality car. Also, pick more than one car so you're no crushed if the car of your dreams is sold to someone else.
