Buying Furniture Without Credit

You Don't Need Credit to Get Great Furniture

Having bad credit can hold you back from doing many things in life. It's hard to buy a home, it's hard to buy a car, and it's even hard to buy furniture. Nice furniture costs money, especially if you are planning on furnishing your entire house. Your couch alone will most likely cost between $600 and $1,500. So how can you afford to buy nice furniture without credit?

Decades ago a revolutionary marketing technique was introduced to the shopping masses. This invention was layaway. Layaway allows you to slowly pay off larger costing merchandise over a period of time, instead of paying for the full price up front. For many years layaway was only seen in large box department stores, but slowly the idea has trickled out onto the rest of the merchandise market, including furniture stores.

Layaway may cost you fees ranging from $10-$15 to a percentage of the merchandise you plan on buying. However, more and more furniture stores are offering their services free of fees. All you do is pick out your furniture, put down 10-25% of the total cost of the furniture, and then slowly pay off the rest of the balance over the next few months. Your furniture sits in the warehouse until you pay the balance off.

Layaway should not be confused with rent to own. Rent to own charges exorbinant amounts of interest on their products in exchange for getting your merchandise instantly. Layaways does not charge interest and you are not allowed to take the merchandise home until you pay the remaining balance off.

So, forget about the rent to own furniture, or the goodwill furniture run, and invest in furniture you really want. No credit needed.
