Buying Guinness Gear for Gifts This Christmas

Get Them Something They'll Treasure

Emma Larkins
Guinness gear makes a great gift for all sorts of different people. However, when choosing a Guinness gift, you'll want to make sure to pick something that is the right fit. The following questions will help you decide on the best presents for lucky guys and gals on your Christmas list.

Is your recipient traditional? With traditionalists, classic items and subtle use of the Guinness logo is usually best, as they may not want to excessively flaunt their appreciation of this dark, rich-bodied beer. Consider buying some attractive Guinness glasses or Guinness mugs that capture the spirit of the brand without trumpeting it too loudly. You should also check out anything featuring John Gilroy designed adverts.

Is your recipient practical? One of my favorite Guinness gifts of all time is the wall-mounted bottle opener. It's perfect for a home bar, a man cave, or anywhere else that Guinness is enjoyed in a fun and communal atmosphere.

Is your recipient a college student or recent college graduate? Guinness apparel is especially popular with young adults. There are a variety of great hats, shirts, jackets, and more that showcase the logo and the brand of this well-known company. The Guinness webstore is a great source of apparel in a range of sizes, designs, and colors.

Has your recipient recently moved or remodeled his or her home? There are tons of great examples of Guinness décor available at a variety of outlets, from wall-hanging mirrors to vintage-looking tin signs to posters that showcase Guinness as it once was, and as it is today. You might want to make sure beforehand, however, that any people sharing a living space with your recipient will be appreciative of the gift.

Is your recipient a diehard Guinness fan? Some people just can't get enough of stuff with this brand on it. If this is the case for the person or people you're buying for this year, the good news is that they'll be happy with just about anything that says "Guinness" on it; the bad news is, they might already own whatever you have in mind. Hedge your bets by getting something rare or unusual, such as a book about the history of the beer brand, or an antique item (which you can often find at local thrift or flea markets, or at online sites such as eBay).

And don't forget the one Guinness gift that will always go over well: the gift of Guinness itself. With its smooth texture and strong, complex flavor, there's not way you can go wrong. (Always remember to drink responsibly.)
