Be sure to shop around to make sure that you get the best possible price. Another option is to purchase a wireless card. If you purchase this on-line it will be a lot cheaper than buying at the store. One website that sells the wireless cards is www.tigerdirect.com. With the card you will be able to get on-line in what is known as "hot spots" such as some McDonald's, coffee houses and several bookstores. This is usually referred to as wi-fi access. What that means is basically you will be able to access the Internet from anywhere, but you will pay a monthly fee that ranges from $50-$70 a month. There are dozens of places that offer you free wi-fi services including the ones mentioned above.
One thing you will want to keep in mind is that Internet connectivity will depend on the wireless waves you pick up on. Sometimes certain ISP's will prompt for security clearance, such as an ID or password. Without that information you will not be able to access the Internet on your browser. Most parents however, who are just looking for a laptop that can be used around the house the majority of the time, then you will probably want your own ISP which is a lot cheaper. You can also hook your dsl modem up to your router modem this is a lot less complicated and very easy.
That is of course if you plan on keeping it in the same place and not really using it for traveling around with. When it comes to the different laptop styles, you will have to find the one that works best for you, and your family. The most important thing is to make sure that you understand how it works so that you will be able to use whatever you purchase. You may even want to think about going to your local discount stores instead of a computer store to purchase your laptop. Stores like Costco, Walmart, and Target sell laptops for a much lower price than most computer stores. The best thing to do is shop around, do your research and find the best one for you and your family.
