Frequent and novice travelers to the Caribbean generally buy liquor and bring back the maximum amount of duty free liquor to the United States. Are there any places priced better than others? Can you bring back more than the duty free amount? What restrictions are involved in buying liquor in the Caribbean since September 11th?
You may have a few questions if you are planning to travel and plan on buying liquor in the Caribbean. There are a few fast and quick tips particularly if you are a light traveler and prefer not dealing with the box of liquor to take home duty free. First and foremost please note you cannot take your liquor through the security checkpoint so be prepared to pack it appropriately. You can also purchase liquor duty free at the airport once you have cleared security. Are prices higher in the airport? You will find prices at the airport to be slightly higher than the duty free shops throughout the Caribbean islands but it is still a great deal.
If you travel back and forth regularly to the Caribbean then most likely you have a plan for packing your duty free liquor appropriately at the airport. Have a secure hard sided container to transport your liquor in. Be prepared to seal it at the ticket counter efficiently and effectively. Delay the final sealing just in case they want proof of what you are caring. Do not count on the box you purchase liquor in to withstand normally baggage handling. This is also an item you are solely responsible for and will not get reimbursed for so be prepared to have crash free outer containers in which to put your box of duty free liquor.
In terms of buying liquor in the Caribbean, is it worth it? It is absolutely worth it particularly if you several high-end signature drinks that are your preference. Once you know what to expect in terms of price and packing and sealing the container for shipping buying liquor in the Caribbean and getting it back home is a great deal and great travel experience.
