Buying the Most Suitable Calendar

Choosing Amongst the Wall Calenders, Organizer Books, and Appointment Books that Abound

Browse any office supply store, online or in person, and you'll find a loaded section of calendars. Lack of options will never be the problem in buying a calendar. The problem is that there is so much time management and organization advice coming at you from every corner, it seems impossible to know just where to "get off" and make a decision. There are organized systems, there's just you and a legal pad, and there's a definite need to choose something. If you don't know just what to do about getting organized, I can tell you that selecting a calendar will make it much, much easier.

Calendars can be just that, calendars, or they can be part of appointment books or organizer books. The right option for you depends on how much you want to organize, and how much you want to commit to an organizing system. One thing is certain: a calendar is a sure-fire tool to get your life more organized. The most valuable thing a calendar does is maintain a record of all of your obligations, commitments, and tasks so that you don't have to remember them and you have once place to look at them. Having a calendar will make you more organized.

To get started with this whirly-gig of getting organized with solid footing, ask yourself the following three questions and shop accordingly for your next calendar.

1. Are you the only person that will be using this calendar? A collaborative family or work calendar should be a refrigerator or a wall calendar, usually, because they will be the most accessible option for multiple users.

2. What are you writing on your calendar? Jotting a couple notes means smaller options with larger time intervals (monthly or even yearly) are probably going to work best for you. If you want to keep detailed listings of your appointments and your tasks, consider larger blocks for writing each day or look at organizer books and appointment books that offer either a weekly or daily option for recording your day-to-day items.

3. Do you need a record of your calendar or planning pages? If you do, the whiteboard options aren't going to work for you, but if you don't, save the paper and get a reusable laminate or whiteboard monthly calendar and some dry erase markers.

So, whether shopping online or visiting your local office supply shop, be a smart and prepared shopper with the answers to these questions prepared.
