Buying the Perfect Lingerie: Tips From a Fashion Model

Lingerie retailers would love us all to think that buying lacy little nothings is already implanted in our female DNA. Truth be told, unless we are strutting on a catwalk with wings attached, buying lingerie can be daunting and even stressful. There are so many styles of bras and panties to choose from that even the most fashion conscious girl can find herself grabbing the first pack of Jockeys she sees and running for the register. However, with a little time and thought, picking out the perfect pair of undies can be easy and fun.

Getting overwhelmed by the style options and whether your bra size is correct or not can ruin your shopping experience. Lingerie shopping should be approached like shoe shopping. We all love buying shoes, we know what looks good and feels good, we grab a girlfriend and hit the stores. Buying underwear should be just as casual and fun. Lingerie should be considered an asset to your wardrobe, almost an accessory, regardless of whether or not anyone but you will see it. The most utilitarian outfit can still be sexy when you know that underneath you are nothing but naughty. If comfort is your thing, the new generation of cottons are a far cry from the infamous granny-panties of yesteryear. Cotton can be cute and sexy with the right cut and prints. Then there's lace on lace, silk and lace, plain silk, cotton blends, lycra, leopard print, girly florals, athletic stripes, polka dots, cartoon characters....you name it, your underwear can have it.

To find the best lingerie for you, first go with your gut instinct and personality style. Take the time to think about how you feel about your body and what your comfort level with it is. Are you generally shy or are you proud of your body and willing to flaunt it? Being daring is great, but if you are a more modest gal you could find that super naughty undies might have you feeling more self-conscious and less uninhibited than you thought you would be. Flirty styles that still embrace comfort and are not overtly daring, like Victoria's Secret's Pink line, would be the ticket for the more conservative girl that still wants to feel sexy. Fredericks' of Hollywood and Trashy Lingerie, on the other hand make great lingerie lines for the totally uninhibited girl who is always looking to experiment with fashion...even the kind only she knows she's wearing!

Taking your body type into account is another great way to ensure buying the right kind of lingerie for yourself. If you want to hide or diminish certain problem areas, try empire waisted babydoll camis that can double as a cute top with jeans and will hide a tummy. Bring attention to your decolletage and hide ample hips by pairing a sexy push up bra with higher waisted boy cut shorts which will also give the impression of a smaller waistline. Small busts can get plenty of help from any number of push ups and padded bras, many of which are made to feel and look very real as opposed to older padded bras which were akin to stuffing your cups with toilet paper. Bikini cut briefs and thongs are the best bet for all of the low cut jean styles, since no matter how cute your panties are, nobody really wants to see them popping out of your pants when you are squatting to reach for a loaf of bread at the supermarket.

Shopping for lingerie should be fun and not anxiety ridden. Every body type can look fabulous and utterly sexy when you pick out the right style for you. To pick out the right style go with your instinct and pick out items that will flatter your best assets. Last, but certainly not least, make sure that you are picking out lingerie for yourself. Of course you may want to wear undies that impress your partner, but first and foremost you want to make sure that the undies you wear make YOU feel amazing. When you feel sexy, everyone around you will be able to see and feel that confidence radiating off of you too....regardless of whether your panties are cotton, silk or lace.
