Buying a New Pet for Your Child

Choosing a pet for your child sometimes is just not easy. There are many pets to choose from. Most pets children want to have are puppies, kittens, birds, turtle or even bunnies. My child loves animals so choosing one for her was hard. One time she wanted a dog another time she wanted a bird. You need to find out what your child in into whether it be a puppy they want or a kitten. Once you know what animal for a pet they want it will be much easier to find resources for it.

If your child is asking for a dog as a pet then a breeder is just what you will want to find in your area. Most people rather choose a breeder than a petstore. Breeders have raised the puppy and in most cases the parents of the new pup are in the breeders home. If you choose to get a puppy from a breeders home they must give you the paperwork on the new pup. The paperwork will state the date of birth, breeders information, vet shots if given, puppys weight, hair color, eye color. If your just going in to the breeders home to see a couple of puppies the best thing to do is to take the child with you so he or she can choose too. You wouldn't want to bring the puppy home and have your child not even like him or her. Having the child with you when you go to pick out the puppy is a great decision. I had gotten my daughter a puppy and taken her with me and it was just so much easier having her there to pick it out. The puppy was small and cute and calm too. We were given here paperwork on the puppy. It was nice too to go the breeders home to see the mother and the father to see what our new puppy was going to look like. You do not want to get a big dog for a small child especially if it is going to be their first one. Sometimes its good to visit the pet store or the parks or even a family members dog to see what your child would like. Big dogs can be scary for little ones. It can overwhelming as well. Big dogs can eithere be ahppy when they see a child and start to jump all over them or be protective. Dogs sometimes can even be vicious towards children. A new puppy is better raised with a child when they have had them since they were born. It helps alot when the puppy is raised with the new family. When puppies go from home to home or from home to pet store sometimes they can be hyper and aggressive.

If your thinking about getting a puppy from a pet store you want to check into it more. They animals they are brought into the pet stores are usually a few wks old. They cost alot more then from a breeder. I have been to petstores in the mall and they cost alot more then if I had gotten one from a local breeder. I don not know if it was because the store was in the mall or they just can price up the pet. Puppies in pet store are bought quickly which is good. It is not good for a puppy or dog to be in there cages all day. I do not like the fact that the pet is indoors all day and night long without being outside. They do not have any interactions with people either. They are left in their cages all day long. The workers check on them and clean their cages all day long. You can find alot of pets too in a petstore like birds, turtles, bunnies, lizards, kittens too. Some puppies can be calm in the cage but when you get them out of the cage they get overwhelmed with the children, or people. You want to make sure the petstore has a return policy like a few days or a week and gives you their paperwork. Having your child with you at the pet store can make it easier for you as well.

Make sure when you get your new pet to have him or her checked by a vet. Every so many months he or she will need shots and visits to the vet. The basic items you will need for your new pet will be puppy food, collar, leash, bowls, measuring cup for the food, bed, chew toys. Puppies love to chew toys, blankets, and play with tennis balls.

If your thinking about getting a pet from the animal shelter be aware of the animals there. Some of the animals brought into the animal shelter have been abused, vicious, hit by a car, have been loose, or have not been cared for. Most animals become vicious if neglected in any way. Not all animals are dangerous most most can be there. I have wanted to get a kitten once from the animal shelter but never happened because I thought the cat would go crazy with my daughter. The animals in the animal shelter are with alot of animals and some are very loving animals. The dogs do go outside to use the bathroom but not the puppies. I live near one and the puppies I never see out but do see the workers with the bigger dogs outside. If your thinking about getting an animal there you need to prove ownership of your home. The animals there are very cheap to buy.

Sometimes the animals are cheap but the flight to bring them to your local airport can be pricy. You cna find alot of new puppies, kittens online. So if you looking for a puppy or a kitten and your local pet store or breeder does not have one look online. Its easy you find the breeder or go through animal websites. You can call the owners most of the times. I have boughten a puppy at 6 weeks old online and he is a very good dog till this day. He cost me $600 and his flight ticket to my local airport was $200. He came with his flight cage, paperwork, and the breeders info. It was really easy. You want to make sure you do not get scammed so make sure the owner does not live out of the country and make sure you talk over the phone with him or her.

Having a pet for your child can be alot of work and responsibility. Make sure your pet goes out every few hours and gets fresh water daily. Baby puppies eat 2 times a day and as they get older after 6 months they will eat once a day. The best dog food out there to buy is Puppy Chow, Iam. Make sure your child helps with the responsibility. Easy chores like scooping the food out of the bag or even helping putting the leash on the collar before going for a walk can be a big help.
