Buying Used Books Online

If you love books, simply for a good read or if you collect books on your favorite hobby, you know how expensive new books can be. There are alternatives and some of the best buys can be found by searching the tomes of online book stores and buying used books. It is certainly a great way to save money. There are a lot of websites that sell used books and a few of them might be a bit of a surprise.

Take Amazon.com for instance. We all know them for their retail stores and their hugely popular online store. Amazon doesn't stock the used books, but works in conjunction with other book stores as well as private sellers to find you the best price on the used book you are looking for. The way it works it that you actually have a list of prices and conditions to choose from. If you are looking for a paperback by your favorite author and don't mind a little wear or possibly some markings on the inside cover, you can find something for as little as a couple of dollars, or if you prefer your books to be in near new condition you can pay a little more and still come away with some fantastic savings.

Check out eBay for their book deals. This amazing site offers an endless number of used books on almost any subject imaginable including rare and out of print books. If you're interested in a certain book always check eBay first because there's a good chance you'll find it and at a greatly discounted price. However, be sure to check the shipping and handling costs. Sometimes these costs can be more than the actual cost of the book. This is the one drawback of buying used books on eBay. If you buy several you could end up paying a hefty shipping charge. But with that in mind, eBay is a book lover's treasure trove.

Half.com, an affiliated of Ebay, sells new and used books. If you don't find what you want right away, you can create a wish list which allows you to be notified when a book you are looking for becomes available. They even carry used text books so it's a great place to look for some fall savings when school time rolls around. Plus if you've been shopping for used books on eBay, you can use your eBay User ID and password on Half.com to log in. How much easier can it get?

AbeBooks.com claims to be the world's largest online marketplace with over 100 million used, rare, and out-of-print books. Abebooks is actually a giant conduit, connecting the book buyer with the book seller. It's an especially popular place to find text books, often saving students more than 50% on purchases. Over 13,000 booksellers pay a subscription fee to list their books with AbeBooks. This makes it almost impossible to not find the used book you are searching for.

This is just a tiny sampling of the most popular websites that carry used books. You can use your favorite search engine to find many more. So whether you're looking for a rare collector's edition or just a good book to read, consider the advantages of used books. They can save you a lot of money and with the convenience of shopping on the web it's easy than ever to find the exact used book you have in mind. Furthermore, when you are finished with your books, you can relist them on any of these great websites and make some of your money back that you have spent!
