Most used car auctions are quite user friendly. The process for purchasing a car at a used auto auction is generally pretty straightforward as well. That being said, a used car buyer at an auction does need to be at least 18 years of age and must possess a valid drivers license. Payment methods generally accepted at used car auction are usually limited to cash, money order, and certified check for obvious reasons. Some auctions may have other specific requirements that are usually listed on their websites so always do your homework prior to attending an auto auction.
Although most cars sell for far less than book value at an auction, it is important to take advantage of the time they give you prior to the auction to inspect the vehicle you are interested in. Since sales are usually final, it is imperative to take advantage of any mechanics available onsite to ensure the vehicle you wish to purchase is in good shape. Otherwise, you could be stuck with a total clunker.
When bidding on vehicles, just be sure to work within the budget you've set for yourself to avoid overspending. If you are lucky enough to win the car you wanted, you will usually have 48 hours to pay up. If you've done your homework, you will have purchased yourself a great car at a fantastic price at your local used car auction!
