By Redhook or Crook I Implore You to Steal Away into the Darkness: A Review of Redhook Double Black Stout (with Coffee) from Redhook Brewery
Redhook Ale Brewery
Woodinville, Washington
Considering that we in the western hemisphere are embarking upon the longest nights of the year it's only fitting that a stout should be the brew of choice tonight. It moves the spirit and makes the pitch black richer still. I'm in kind of a black mood right now and so this isn't maybe a proper time to imbibe but Schlaf in himmlischer Ruh (with the aide of alcools) I will this night. You see, I miss my gravy-drinking toddler princess despite having seen her the past two weekends. I simply can't get enough of the clone baby. She says she's a ticken (chicken), sings Jingle Bells, loves the Jingle Cats and reaches across the table to eat spoonfuls of gravy and begs for tomatoes despite my caution against letting her little belly lining achieve a food ulcer at age 2. She's a miniature me and if you haven't noticed I kinda like me despite the fact that I'm a complete maroon.
So yeah, a black feeling enriched with a stout is the name of this review. It's not your typical imperial stout as it's lacking the deeper affects of chocosmokecoffee but they are in abundance enough to call this a very respectable stout. Redhook should make this a regular release and I might be more inclined to join their revolution which up to this point has underwhelmed me with a stigma of craft brewery lite when I think of them.
Now let me foolishly rue the fact that I didn't pick up a second copy of the Reverend Carey Landry's "THE SPIRIT IS A-MOVIN'" LP with a yellow cover today at the thrift store for 75c.
