Bye Bye Didi, American Idol Eliminates Another Female

6 Male Contestants and 3 Female Contestants Remain

Lisa McNamara
Another female contestant was eliminated on American Idol this week. Didi Benami said goodbye tonight after receiving the lowest number of votes after Tuesday's performance. Tim Urban and Katie Stevens joined Benami in the bottom three this week. Each of these contestants has been in the bottom 3 already this season before tonight, indicating that they are all just a few votes away from going home.

Tim Urban

Tim Urban keeps holding on each week. Although his performances are not great, he does offer that good ole boy image that appeals to the audience. Kara accused Urban of not even understanding what the judges were saying when they offered him critique, because of his constant smile. His response, keeping with his innocence and charm was that after every performance, even if it is his last, it was still the greatest experience of his life. You just have to love a guy like that. No wonder he keeps hanging on week after week. I doubt he will be able to hang on another week as the competition gets tougher.

Katie Stevens

Katie Stevens had a solid performance Tuesday but is probably getting use to being sent to the bottom 3. She is young and based on her performances still has a lot to learn about her own personal style. The judges are not helping in that regard and are disagreeing week after week about what style of an artist she is. Simon still holds on to his belief that she should be singing country, and that Wild Horses by the Rolling Stones was her best performance to date. Kara and Randy both feel she should be singing Pop with an R&B influence. Ellen wants to see her sing something young and contemporary. Since she has been all over the board this season, we can only wait and see what she will sing next.

Three Females Left

Benami will be the third female contestant eliminated from idol, leaving the male contestants all intact from the original 6. Although the judges still had a save, they did not use it on Benami. As her final attempt to stay on the show she sang Rhiannonby Fleetwood Mac. Her performance was much better than Tuesday night but not enough to save her. The cry baby of 2010 remarkably kept her emotions in check for her last time on stage; I guess this experience has toughened her up a bit, which will be good when she goes on tour with the Top 10. So Didi, we will see you on tour. The remaining female contestants are Siobhan Magnus, Crystal Bowersox, and Katie Stevens.

Other Highlights of the Week

Other highlights of the week include the stellar performance on Tuesday from Crystal Bowersox, as she demonstrated that she has the ability to appeal to other audiences. The outfit left a bit to be desired, she always looks like she almost has it right. Her performance was moving as she sang Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips at the piano. Simon was not impressed by the piano and wants to see her back behind her guitar. Although I think she needs to get rid of the dreads in her hair she does have a great voice and continues to select the perfect song every week. Michael Lynch surprised the audience Wednesday with a purple hair 'squirrel tail', as Ryan Seacrest called it. Let's hope he loses that before next week's performance. We will all wait to see if Siobhan Magnus can hold it together next week after being visibly rattled after the feedback she received on Tuesday. Finally, Ellen, we like you better when you aren't so harsh, lighten up, you represent the every man, we like you funny not mean.

Didi is a good singer and will be missed, but I agree with Michele, I think Crystal will win.
