Cabin Fever? Things to Do While Stuck at Home

The One
Are you suffering from a cabin fever? What can you do to keep from getting bored?

Say for example you just had a back operation and you are healthy enough to move around the house, but not go back to work. Initially you may try to get busy with movies, TV, computers and phone calls; but for how much longer one can do that? Or you can even write letters to old buddies, try board games with the wife, re-arrange books, read magazines, listen to music, fed the birds and even try your hands on the old piano. But after that you are still left with nothing to do.

Here are some tips for preventing cabin fever. While you are at home experiment with paints, brushes and canvas. Very recently I met someone who took up painting while staying at home while recovering from surgery. He later became proficient enough that he now works his new career as an amateur painter.

Some other ideas to consider when stuck at home due to bad weather, try to experiment with your cooking skills. It may result in the creation of soups, and even sometimes bread and pie. Also when you are stuck at home for more than a week due to ice, utilize the vacation time by playing the game of cards and pictionary. You can even make doughnuts and pretzels and completely turn a dreary period into an exciting week.

Some other suggestions on what to do when you cannot go out of your place include: Start organizing the drawers and cabinets as they are always in a mess. Organize your tapes, CDs and DVDs. For some fun try playing a crossword puzzle or solitaire. You can even try your hand on a short story or simply utilize the time in improving your skills about computers. If you have kids, utilize the time with them. Show them how to cook. As most kids above 3 years love to stand on a chair and mix the ingredients; allow them to be a part of your cooking expedition. Most children love cookies, so make them a part of your cookie making experience.

When you are caught in the house, all you need to do is to feel happy. Treat yourself as a lucky one as you have got plenty of time to devote to yourself, your family and friends. How many people are lucky enough to get this kind of opportunity?
