Cable Theft , It Is A Crime

M Pears
Thieves need to realize that free cable is not a bargain. To some people cable theft is not a crime, but to the people that pay their bills it's very much a crime, and very much illegal. To define cable theft it is a illegal act of cable programming services without the authorization of, or payment to, a cable company. The cable companies are losing billions yearly because of cable theft and about 12 percent of cable customers are stealing the service. This is affecting city budgets, and causing cable bills to rise.

Cable theft is affecting everyone that has cable it can affect your picture quality by weakening of the signal. There are two kinds of cable theft active, and passive. Active theft is when a person knowingly makes an illegal connection to the cable system or tampers with equipment in order to obtain cable services illegal. Passive theft is when a customer knowingly receives free services due to unlawful connection of a previous homeowner. If you don't report it and, you receive cable services for free it is still a crime. Is watching television worth paying a big fine or, spending time in jail, because laws are cracking down on cable theft, if caught with an unauthorized account you will either be charged with either an class a misdemeanor if, the value is under one hundred and fifty dollars, or either a class c felony if it's over one hundred and fifty dollars.

Remember that if you are aware of someone stealing cable and you don't report it that you are just as guilty as they are. All of the honest paying customers suffers from the rising cost of cable bills and are footing the bills for all the thieves. It is a problem that needs to stop because it's unfair, and unjust to the honest customers. Affecting cable rates weaken signals, and picture quality , increases service calls and maintenance. It can also interfere with radio signals. Penalties do vary state to state but most cases do result in fines and it is possible to serve jail time. So many companies are losing lots of money like Cox Communications, Comcast Corporation, Time Warner, Charter Communications, Earthlink and so many more companies. They now have online forms to report cable theft and it's completely confidential. To report cable theft include a description of the theft and, you don't need to use your name or address you will remain anonymous and it is kept strictly confidential. Call your local cable service provider hotline. Report more and maybe thieves will think before stealing cable ever again.
