Cadillac OBGYN in Michigan: A Review

Finding a Good OBGYN

Theresa L.
Finding the perfect doctor is never an easy task to do. Most of us rely on friends and family when we search for a new doctor. Some of us do not have that luxury. I remember when I found out I was carrying my second son. I did not have the option to rely on family and friends for advise. All my family lived far away and the ones that did leave close by had no need for an OBGYN.

That left me with one option. To go through a phone book and began picking out names. I based my decision on distance and insurance. I finally found a decent one and discovered that the office was the same one my mother went to.

When the day came to go to my appointment my mother pointed out to me this was the wrong location. As it turned out the Cadillac OBGYN, which is apart of the Mercy Hospital, had two locations. I tell myself this place has to be pretty good to be associated with the hospital and have enough business to have two location.

I was so wrong. The first visit had the doctor telling me my unborn child was not in the right position and they may have to do surgery. As a patient going to a doctor we trust them to be honest with us so the news of surgery did not sit well with me. I went home and told my husband we may have a problem. When I returned the next month it was to be told the same thing.

Two weeks later I began to experience excruciating pain all through my back and abdomen to the point I could not move. My mother rushed to me to the hospital and from there they called up my OBGYN doctor. He told them I had to have immediate surgery done and to have me rushed to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

I was very uncomfortable with the idea of being in an ambulance and manage to get the hospital to agree to allow me to drive down. So as I sat in the ER waiting to be release the special I was to see suggested I come in to there office in the morning.

As I got there I am thinking the worse. You can imagine how I felt to hear that my doctor was as dumb as a box of rocks and that there was absolutely nothing wrong. Still it did not make me feel good knowing my OBGYN was wrong. My next appointment was three days away, three months into my pregnancy and I was scheduled for two weeks appointments. I went and found my doctor was gone and I now had a new one.

This confused me and when I asked the nurse explained they had a rotating staff where once a month a new doctor would come in and the old would return to whatever hospital in Michigan they came from. This did not sit well with me but the second doctor was rather nice and seemed to know what he was doing.

So I stayed and the following month a new one was brought in. By this time I was getting tired of seeing a new doctor each time but was now so far in my pregnancy that it would have been to much to change physicians again.

I can assure you though by the time I had my son and returned for my follow up appointment at Cadillac OBGYN I did not go back even after they told me I had possible cancer. It took me a year to find an office I liked and was comfortable with, a year without treatment but for me I will never return to that place.

Why am I bothering to tell you all of this. That is simple. To help others from making the same mistakes I made. I do not recommend the Cadillac OBGYN office yet others will. My mother loves her doctor and in an ironic twist he was the one to deliver my own child. Had I thought about it I would have check ahead of time to find out what the office was like, who the doctors were, and the stability of the place. Instead I went on the recommendation that it was apart of the hospital.

In conclusion I do not recommend Cadillac OBGYN and on a final note if you are not sure on who to go to, contact your hospital and talk to some of the nurses in the birthing area. They can give you the names of some of the better doctors in your area. Trust your own judgment. If you are not happy with who you are with, find a new doctor right away.
