I joined cafe mom about ten months ago, after I got married and moved from Wisconsin to Georgia. My husband was working all the time and gone for weeks at a time. I was looking to make some friends that were new to motherhood and marriage just like I was.
I joined and was excited to join groups and meet mothers. I joined two groups. The first group I joined was "my house is a mess and I'm stressed." This group was great because it had lots of helpful ideas on how to get my messy house under control with my one year old son behind me making it a mess again.
The second group I joined was called Young mothers. This group was made for mothers 14-26 ages. I loved this group at first but then the longer I was in it I started to hate this group and cafe mom. This group was filled with so much drama and teenage girls that I think it was worse than high school.
I also joined some on cooking and some dealing with being a marine wife. These groups are the only reason I am still part of this website. After seeing that if you don't agree with children having children and them having more babies while being young you were attacked and then banned from the group. The same things happen if you didn't go along with every little word they said. The admin that the group owner had picked to run the group were mostly all teenage girls who acted like you were trying to steal their man.
Some other thing that started happening was they had this widget that was a Christmas tree and women would go and leave nasty comments and gifts attacking each another. They will send you nasty e-mails and attack you every way they can.
I also noticed that mothers were always going off about how they had the next Albert Einstein. I do agree that every mother thinks their children are the best but to have such a catty attitude I was in shock. Women calling each other names and saying they hope they stop reproducing. I couldn't believe my eyes in what was going on.
This was not something I joined for I joined to meet women who were going through the same type of thing I was going through, this was not something that I thought mothers should be doing. I was thinking this site would be where mothers tell fun stories about their children and family, share recipes and helpful tips.
I have made one or two friends on this website but I don't know if it was worth the attacks I have received over not always agreeing with someone's opinions. I think this could be a really good website if they could limit the cattiness of the different groups but doing that would be impossible.
If you are thinking about joining this group, I hope this review has been helpful to you. I'm sure there are some women who have had a wonderful experiences with this website and others like me who has not had the best time with it. I am still a cafe mom member I just have limited it down to which sites I will visit and most of them are recipes' groups or helpful cleaning groups.

Post a CommentTHIS IS MY HUMBLE OPINION:
NOT a place for real moms, in the real world, looking for real advice and solutions. I am KICKING myself for spending 2 weeks as a member.
A real example of what happened to me: I stated that skin is an organ. It is a fact that skin is the human body's largest organ. Not only did people LOL at me and suggest I was stupid, one 'member' in particular DEBATED with me that skin is NOT an organ AND repeatedly RIDICULED me, in reference to skin being an organ. It's one thing to not know skin is an organ, it is quite another to DEBATE it!
After reading repeated posts from 'women' (and I write 'women' because who really knows who these people are) asking 'What can I do, What can I do', my husband has been accused of RAPE! or my husband just CHOKED me! or My baby just spilled 10 oz of formula and I have NO MONEY to buy anymore until my WIC comes in next week. I HAD ENOUGH!!!
I wasn't seeking out these posts, these are posts in the public groups hosted by
Good Review. Kudos to you for being a marine wife, I know its not easy.
