I had a taste for a chocolate chip cookie, which always makes for a great breakfast, and the one by the Walgreen's brand Café W looked delicious. Even though it didn't have an expiration date and I was suspicious that it might be stale, I grabbed it anyway and headed to the checkout area.

The cookie contains flour (malted barley flour), sugar, brown sugar, margarine (liquid and partially hydrogenated soybean oil, whey, vegetable mono and diglycerides, sodium benzoate and citric acid as a preservative, colored with beta carotene), chocolate flavored confectioners coating (partially hydrogenated soybean, palm kernel oil, cocoa processed with alkali, non fat dry milk solids, soy lecithin), eggs, baking soda, salt, vanilla, natural and artificial flavors.

I knew that this cookie was supposed to have a hard texture rather a chewy one, but when I bit into it, it was as hard as a brick! It was beyond stale and unfortunately I was too far beyond the Walgreen's to return it.
Taste of
Café W Chocolately Chunk Cookie
Even though the cookie was stale, I must say that it had a surprisingly good taste. The cookie itself wasn't overly sweet, it had more of a home-style flavor and the chocolate chunks were made of milk chocolate so it didn't have a bitter taste.
In the End...
Because I liked the flavor of the Café W Chocolatey Chunk Cookie, I was going to give it a second shot and try a fresher one. But once I read the ingredients, after I bought it, I saw that it contained hydrogenated oils and so many grams of trans fat, that I decided against buying it again. The flavor was good, but this cookie is just way too unhealthy for me. With all things considered, I give the Chocolatey Chunk Cookie 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Post a CommentThe ones I've had came with an expiration date and they have always been good and fresh. The key is to secure them when they get on the shelf.
They are often the Item of the Month and those are culled through thoroughly for expiration dates.

I agree, it definitely needs an expiration date who knows how long those cookies sit on the shelf.
I also got the Cafe W Chocolatey Chunk cookie at Walgreens. I was in hurry and thought it was very big and appealing. I got back to the office and started reading the Nutrition Facts.
Wow - 430 calories? I opened it up anyways expecting something really good. Ugh - it tasted VERY old and stale. Needless to say - in to the trash it went. An expiration date on the product would help the store and consumer a lot! I don't usually buy cookies like that and I guess I learned a lesson. This cookie earns only 1 star which is for its appetizing appearance.
