Caffeine

Caffeine

My crutch

My friend

My salvation

My enemy

My addiction

Caffeine

Agave sweetened black tea, hot or iced

Unsweetened green tea, hot

Stevia sweetened, milk enhanced coffee

Loads of dark chocolate

No soda please

Caffeine

You wake me

Keep me alert

When asleep I'd rather be

But deadlines call

Function necessitates

Caffeine

You enhance my mood

Make me smile

When a frown feels more natural

Ah, the drug you are

Caffeine

You make me a bit more patient

When the mean spirited man

Spouts the hatred in his heart

Though I'd rather superglue his mouth shut

Caffeine

You relieve my pain

Sooth my aches

Artificial and temporary

Though it may be

Caffeine

I reach for you

When my day is bad

Though I know

The fix is an illusion

Caffeine

Overindulgence of you

Makes my hands shake

Makes my body jittery

Makes my heart race

Caffeine

Abstaining from you

Frustrates my focus

Makes me sleepy

Creates intense craving

Caffeine

You are as hard on my body as alcohol or narcotics

In different and similar ways

You lift my spirits for the moment

You allow me to ignore my body's signals

Caffeine

At least you're legal
