How Much Caffeine Are You Giving Your Child

My spouse and I spent Easter at his in-laws and of course our 19 month old received a chocolate easter bunny it was a milk chocolate bunny. The size of two chocolate bars. My spouse then asked me how much caffeine is in chocolate, me not knowing turned to the internet for the answers and I was shocked about how much caffeine is in chocolate and other items and how much caffeine your children should intake daily.

Interesting enough, we don't really give our son chocolate, maybe on a special occasion he will have about a quarter sized amount of chocolate. But we generally don't give him sweets.

So how much caffeine is in a simple chocolate bar? Well it is different for milk chocolate and dark chocolate.

Milk chocolate 1 oz - (28 grm) - 7 milligrams

How much should your child have?
2.5 milligrams per kilogram of body weight.
18mths to 24 months - under 23 milligrams daily
4 - 6 years - 45 milligrams daily
7 - 9 years - 62 milligrams daily
10 - 12 years 85 milligrams daily
