Caffeine Insanity: Next it Will Be Coca-Cola's Fault!

A Man Pleads 'Caffeine Insanity' in Murder Trial

A Kentucky man was on trial for killing his wife when defense attorneys' exclaimed that it was associated to "Caffeine Insanity."

Caffeine insanity? Now that's just crazy! No pun intended. Next it's going to be insanity caused from eating saturated fat; or perhaps someone will plead craziness from having too much dairy. Either way, it sounds to me like this guy should stay far, far away from the coffee/tea/sodas, maybe even decaffeinated drinks.

I wonder if, maybe, he took too many pep pills. Woody Will Smith is the 33 year old man's name. No, that's not the famous Fresh Prince that we all love. Woody explained to the court that the murder of his wife took on many different variables. He says that he was sleep deprived and high on caffeine. This insane mixture caused him to grab the nearest extension cord and strangle his wife to death.

Call me crazy, but whenever I have too much caffeine I usually just clean, write insanely weird articles (now), or organize. What happens after that, is what some people like to refer to as a "caffeine crash." That's when I go ahead and pass out in bed, instead of strangling my friends or significant other with an extension cord.

Woody's attorney spoke in his defense saying that he thought his wife, Amanda, was cheating on him so he got all jacked up on caffeine to stay awake that fateful night and watch her. Instead of waking up and committing adultery, Woody just skipped the, "I caught you", step and strangled her.

a defense psychologist said that he had experienced temporary insanity provoked by lack of sleep. I don't know about all that. Maybe lack of sleep? Jealousy? Hyped up on pep pills and coffee? Maybe the thought of his wife being unfaithful to him?

Now is this REALLY a psychological illness. No! Absolutely not! If someone murdered all of their friends and then said it was a temporary mental illness caused by the feeling of depression and loneliness they wouldn't get off as temporarily insane. If someone killed their boss because the stressful work environment caused them to temporarily snap, they wouldn't get off the hook for murder.

If Woody Will Smith gets probation, put in a mental facility, or a decreased sentencing because of his supposed "lapse of insanity" then our judicial system REALLY needs some work. Even Lindsay Lohan couldn't get off on murder!

  • The thought of jealousy and adultery must have been running through the defendants head.
  • This coined a new term called "Caffeine Insanity" because of the amount of caffeine in his system.
  • Woody had thought that his wife had been cheating on him with another man.
Woody Will Smith said his temporary psychotic reaction was caused by a lack of sleep and too much caffeine. This caused him to murder his wife.
