Caffelatte Italian Restaurant comes highly recommended by those in the know on the island of Oahu. And it is true, just about every dish on the menu is prepared with excellence. In a state not well known for its Italian cuisine, Caffelatte Italian Restaurant truly outdoes itself (and much of the competition) when it comes to authenticity and flavor. There are some significant drawbacks however.
For one, there is no air conditioning. In Hawaii, you can easily do without heat, but air conditioning, well, not so much. Yes, you get lovely breezes pretty much anywhere on the island, but in order to get those breezes, you need to open the windows, and with the wind comes ugly noise from the street. Which is fine if you are enjoying a quick burger at Cheeseburger Waikiki. But when you are trying to enjoy a nice sit-down Italian dinner (that doesn't come very cheap), you would prefer to be cool and have relative quiet. Maybe that's just me.
The other drawback is the fixed price of $35 per person. For that you get three courses - appetizer, entree, and dessert. The portions are large and satisfying, but for people who do not typically consume three courses, it can feel like a great big waste. Left with the option of stuffing yourself or leaving half of each plate, you might decide to stuff yourself, and that's not very sexy when you are on a date. So, I don't recommend Caffelatte Italian Restaurant if you are looking for a romantic evening out.
That said, $35 per person for Italian food is generally not that great. Especially when there are excellent Italian cafes for a lot less nearby. Cafes with better atmosphere, if not better food. On the other hand, their tiramisu is awfully hard to beat.
Caffelatte Italian Restaurant is located at 339 Saratoga Road in Waikiki. They do not offer parking, so walk if you are staying in the area, or call a cab. Also, they are closed on Tuesdays. Weird, I agree. For more information, you can call Caffelatte Italian Restaurant at 808-924-1414.
When it comes to Caffelatte Italian Restaurant, you may love it or hate it, it's purely a matter of taste. I recommend stopping by and checking out the atmosphere before you are super-hungry, so you can head elsewhere if you decide. Aloha, and thanks for reading.
