CAIR Loses Tax-Exempt Status

The infamous Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), which has been accused of receiving funding from "questionable" sources and has had numerous members of its leadership indicted for having strong ties to terrorism, has lost its coveted tax-exempt status. Until recently, CAIR's website stated its tax exempt as "a nonprofit 501(c)(4), grassroots civil rights and advocacy group." This tax exempt status is difficult for an organization to maintain due to the rigorous filing requirements. This status also allows lobbying activities, campaign funding, legislation and candidate backing that enables an organization to influence government. CAIRS website currently lists their tax exempt status as "a not-for-profit organization recognized as tax-exempt under U.S. Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3)." A 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status can be gained by virtually any organization and is severely limited in its ability to influence government. With CAIR's shady background, this should have happened long ago. For those unfamiliar with CAIR, they claim to be an organization dedicated to "enhancing understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding". However, their complete bias against anything un-Islamic says anything but. They will challenge anything and everything that even resembles an attack on Islam with actions such as boycotts and lawsuits, but have yet to condemn any terrorist attacks conducted in the name of the "religion of peace". It is interesting to note that the co-founder of CAIR, Omar Ahmed, had this to say about Islam: "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faiths, but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."
