They are all purported clients of Cake Man Raven, the bakery on Fulton Street in Fort Greene, famous for its red velvet cake.
And check out Mayor Bloomberg's visit to the bakery. This is the man who wants to ban food stamp recipients from buying sugary drinks. Bloomberg said Cake Man Raven is a model small business in the city.
The "model small business" just got shut down. It was closed by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene earlier this week because it posed "immediate health risks," reports Crain's. It had 78 violation points including no running water and lots of flies.
According to an employee, ""Cake Man was late on his water bill, and because of that we weren't able to flush the toilets or wash our hands." Yummy!
"And when the Brooklyn Bridge turned 120, the master baker cooked up a 7-foot version, complete with water running underneath," reports The Free Library. Running water for cakes, but not for the store?
Back in January 2008, inspectors also found "evidence of mice or live mice" in the facility, according to Crain's.
So, this is celebrities' place of choice for confections: no running water, flies, and mice. Who knew? Clean must be "out" and I just didn't know it. I'll gladly stay out.
In case you can't believe the celebrities who eat from this joint: City Search names Robert De Niro, P.Diddy, Oprah Winfrey, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and Patti LaBelle. The Free Library names Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Bill Cosby and Columbia University. Morgan Freeman appears on Cake Man Raven's website.
Eat safe, till next time, Clinton Hill.
