Cake Mania Game Review

Review of the PC Game Cake Mania

Marsha J
Cake Mania begins with Jill who has just graduated from culinary school and has come home to work in her grandparent's bakery. Unfortunately she finds that it is closed down and out of business. Jill decides to reopen the bakery and try to make enough money to keep her grandparents dream alive.

The game play in Cake Mania is simple at best. Customers line up at the left counter and you have to take their orders. Once you know what the customer wants, you just walk over to the oven and press the corresponding button that matches the cake that your customer wants.

You also need to pay attention to the color of the cake. Once the cake is out of the oven, take it over to the frosting station and choose the correct color. Once that is completed, hand it to the customer who will leave the money on the counter. Collect the money and serve the next customer.

Cake Mania includes many different upgrades. As Cake Mania progresses you will need to get more ovens, faster cake stations and more decorations to put on the cake.

A list of Cake Mania upgrades include:

Up to 3 ovens
Up to 3 frosting stations
A microwave to make cupcakes
Up to 2 cake decoration stations
A television set

The television can be turned on to keep your guests happy. You can change the channel to appeal to all of your different Cake Mania customers. The microwave is where you can go to make cupcakes. If a customer's happiness meter is dropping they will soon leave so you can hand them a cupcake to make them happy again.

After you buy an item such as the TV or microwave you can upgrade it again to make it faster. You can also upgrade the ovens, frosting and decorating stations as well. You will also be able to upgrade the speed at which Jill moves.

In the center of the game is a cake platter. Eventually you will make a mistake or a customer will get angry and leave and you will have a cake that you cannot use because no one is requesting it at the moment. You can just set it on the platter and eventually a customer will ask for it and you can sell it. You can also throw away cakes that you no longer want but this will take money out of your profits.

In Cake Mania you will see your share of weird customers such as the Easter bunny, brides and even Santa Claus and a vampire.

Cake mania is a fun game that you can and will play for hours. The graphics in Cake Mania and the movement are great as well as the colors in the game. The music is a bit annoying but it is easy to turn down or turn off completely in the options menu. Cake Mania gives you a few hours or days of entertainment and even gets more challenging as you have to make bigger cakes with many different toppings and frosting. As of yet there is no mention of a part two to Cake Mania but it is a good game that can potentially have a few sequels.
