California Assemblymen Head for Texas

Lorraine Yapps Cohen
A group of California state legislators travels to Texas soon. They'll meet with Texas Governor Rick Perry.

Why would Californian state government people do such a thing? Because California's concerned representatives-and there aren't many-are worried about the exodus of people and business from a state already bereft of jobs and entities producing wealth.

How do they do it?
California Assembly Minority Whip, Dan Logue, who spearheaded the effort to suspend AB32, California's economy-wrecking energy bill, is also out in front on this fact-finding trip to see how a business friendly, job-growing state works.

Andy Puzder will go along. Puzder is CEO of CKE Restaurants, Inc., which runs Hardees and Carl's Jr. restaurants.

We hear that CKE, employer of 18,000 Californians-many of them minorities and women-will be leaving California in a lure from Texas. Hmm. Just what California needs, while it verges on bankruptcy.

Can't do business in CA
Puzder isn't new to the California business scene. He began a campaign of public and governmental awareness of business plight in the state in 2008. His position paper described all the ways in which California makes it impossible to conduct business. He concluded the paper with an historical quotation and a plea:

'As Thomas Jefferson wisely stated: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." It is my sincere wish that California legislators will keep this quotation in mind as they attempt to address California 's growing economic crisis .'

Leaving la la land
California's economic crisis continues to grow. Not much has happened to change things, even though it looks like 'California cares' while robbing its people of jobs.

Three years of speaking for businesses not able to do business in the state, Puzder is making good on his intentions to leave. California legislators either don't know what to do or continue to live in the la la land of ignorance about what creates prosperity for its people.

Now, in a move to look like something's being done, Gavin Newsam asked to be included in the Texas trip. As the Lieutenant Governor of California and first in line to take Gov. Jerry Brown's place, Newsam might know how to grab a spotlight, but little else.

Can you imagine Newsam in Texas saying anything that makes business sense? Or being able to understand anything that makes good business sense? He'll be in for the photos of California politicians learning how to 'do it' like they do it in Texas.

Well, let's not prejudge the event. Maybe there's some of that 'hope and change' for California in Texas.

I remember reading this one, Lorraine. I must have received a notice. I also remember getting half a comment written when the $%^& phone rang, lol. I'm losing my mind, I swear. Anyway, CA will implode if it stays on the current path, and businessmen can see that. I don't blame them at all for hitting the road. What bothers me is why the legislators have to go to Texas to figure out what the problem is. Can't they figure it out themselves?

I hope somebody on the trip gets the reason why Texas is friendlier towards business for all Californians' sakes!

Well done - I remember when people wanted to go to California - now nobody can afford to live there.

Let's be optimistic, although there are some names here that make one wonder how hopeful the citizens of CA can be because of this trip. rcj

Maybe a too true to blue state is waking up a bit.
