We already have "black history month". Arizona schools are been battling schools teaching "Latino studies". Now CA schools are forced to teach "gay history". http://www.theblaze.com/stories/update-california-governor-signs-bill-that-mandates-gay-history-lessons-in-public-schools/
With all of these "feel good" special interest lessons that promote, celebrate and embrace selected and preferred minorities, when do teachers have time to teach the basics?
In recent years, public schools have dropped virtually all curriculum on American history and civics.
Is it any wonder that today's youth do not know how American government works. Is it any wonder that today's schools are failing to educate our kids to the high standards that we once had? Is it any wonder that today's youth are not proud to be Americans but they are very proud to be black, Latino or gay?
Our government spends more money on education than nearly every other country in the world yet out kids are getting dumber and dumber. I have never liked the word education because it has come to mean "indoctrination". Today, American education focuses on indoctrinating kids to take-up liberal causes such as global warming, union rights, social justice, pacifism, gay rights, womens' rights, diversity, and discrimination, rather than educating them about the skills that they need to lead a productive life.
America will only continue to be be great if our pride in America comes first. We must teach our kids what made America great so that they will have the knowledge necessary to know how to keep it great.
Why are our schools highlighting the differences between individuals instead of teaching the basics? If the objective is to reduce bullying, it is certainly not working. There is more violence in today's schools than there was before the liberals began implementing their agenda.

Post a CommentRick, good comment. I agree with you about transgenderism and gays. Race and gender are immutable, however black studies, Latino studies, women's studies, Muslim studies and topics with political agendas such as global warming, feminism and multiculturalism., etc. should not be taught in public schools or in universities that receive government funding. Most all universities receive public funding in the form of grants paid directly to the universities and scholarships paid to their students. Also all student loans must go through the federal government now.. When I was young, I attended private Hebrew school for an hour and a half per day, 4 days per week. Many of my Catholic neighbors attended private parochial school instead of public school. Parents are free to send their children to private schools if they they wish to study the above mentioned topics. Gary
Gary, TRANSGENDERISM is inherently involves varying degrees of surgery and treatments both psychological and physical. The very nature of being "Transgender" involves seeking, desiring and in many instances achieving elective surgical change from one's genetically assigned gender (you either have XX or XY chromosomes, XX resulting in female, XY resulting in male) to display as another gender. In rare instances you have other combinations XXY (.002% of the population) or true hermaphroditism BOTH of which are PHYSIOLOGICAL conditions. Transgenderism on the other hand has been shown to be primarily PSYCHOLOGICAL in nature. Transgenderism should never be given the same level of treatment as race or ethnicity from a constitutional perspective because it is NOT AN IMMUTABLE CHARACTERISTIC. Respectfully, Rick Stone.
Gary, it is appropriate to learn about one's ethnic history. "RACE" is an IMMUTABLE CHARACTERISTIC - it does not and cannot be changed. A person's sex is an IMMUTABLE CHARACTERISTIC - it does not and cannot be changed. SEXUAL ORIENTATION is a behavioral display and predilection that may be rooted in genetics or hormonal factors but it DOES NOT change the fact that a gay male is a male and lesbian female is still a female. The fact that there have been ample instances of "GAY" people going straight and STRAIGHT people coming out of the closet is indicative of the fact that SEXUAL ORIENTATION IS NOT an IMMUTABLE CHARACTERISTIC, rather it is a highly plastic and malleable one. Given the foregoing, it is my opinion that sexual orientation should never be given the same level of treatment as race or ethnicity from a constitutional perspective because it is NOT IMMUTABLE. Respectfully, Rick Stone.
