Bird Watching at Colusa-Sacramento River State Park
Located just north of Sacramento near downtown Colusa, this California state park is on a major migratory route for the Pacific Flyaway making it the perfect location to bird watch. The park is also home to a number of species that can be spotted while walking the one mile loop nature trail. The Colusa-Sacramento River is known to offer some of the best birding in the state.

Bird Watching at Tomales Bay State Park
The Tomales Bay State Park is located 40 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. This California state park is home to forests, meadows, marshes, beaches, fields and hills offering visitors a wide variety of things to see. Visitors may spot land and sea birds that include: owl (including the rare spotted owl), meadowlarks, quail, goldfinches, great blue heron, puffins, pelicans, ruddy ducks, woodpeckers and many more. A true birders' paradise.

Bird Watching at Moss Landing State Beach
Just sixteen miles north of Monterey, California, you'll find the beautiful Moss Landing State Beach. This is another stop along the migratory route for the Pacific Flyaway making it a popular spot for birdwatchers. Species seen at Moss Landing include: roosting gulls, raptors, locking shorebirds and Sooty Shearwaters.

Bird Watching at Salton Sea State Recreation Area
Another important stop along the migratory route for the Pacific Flyaway, Salton Sea is a great place for birdwatching in California. Birds begin arriving in October and can be seen through May. In January, more than 400 species of birds can be seen at Salton Sea. These species include: brown and white pelicans, egrets, Canadian and snow geese, northern pintails, roadrunners and clapper rails. During the spring months, rough-legged hawks and peregrine falcons can be seen.
