California Republican Assembly Members Propose Jobs Bills

They Went to Texas and Learned

Lorraine Yapps Cohen
Republicans in California's Assembly didn't wait long for their trip to Gov. Rick Perry's Texas to conclude. They promptly proposed measures for bringing back business and jobs to California.

Besides observing Texas's healthy economy, the entourage of CA Republican Assemblymen and two Democrats heard from businesses that migrated there from California. Their message was clear. Assemblyman Dan Logue (R) put it this way, "the Legislature has made it too expensive and too burdensome to create and retain jobs in the Golden State."

Ideas for jobs
The Texas visit yielded ideas for creating jobs in California's private sector. Also, ways to allow existing businesses to operate unencumbered arose, as well as ways to attract new business to the state. Right now, California is the last place companies consider for starting up.

Bring back business
Pro-business measures proposed by the Assembly include tax credits for business and incentives for start-ups. These would have the effect of mitigating business migration out of the state, plus a less restrictive environment for setting up new business in California.

Keep jobs
Restrictions, regulations, and lawsuits on business offenders also play large roles in driving out jobs. Proposed reforms in these areas aim to keep jobs in the state.

A spate of Assembly Bills
Read the entire slate of proposed Assembly Bills here. If enacted, the Bills will go a long way in a long process that economically damaged California so badly. If they get out of Committee, however, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

To them I would add a complete moratorium on all environmental regulations and a reversal of prior judgments. We still have usurious fines levied by CARB, CA DPR, and the EPA hanging over businessesmen trying to do business under overbearing environmental rules. Witness George Hahn, who is out of his worm poop business no matter what happens next in California.

Along with uplifting and sensible proposals sparked by the trip, we have Gavin Newsom, CA Lieutenant Governor, who learned nothing and had this to say about home versus Texas: "I'll take our environmental protections and workforce protections over theirs any day of the week." Talk about raining on the parade....

And join me, again, in feeling a bit hopeless about California.

Less RINO and more conservative is the ticket!

Don't give up hope yet - I keep praying for the Californians to learn from their mistakes (and the New Yorkers, too!) cheers :)

There are still no jobs available in our area...and the 50 plus group with children at home and still in high school are struggling and not being hired. Too old to be employed, not eligible for unemployment and too young for social security.

C'mon Dr. Who. Don't be mean to poor Michael. I'm sure he also wants to reverse the job exodus. If it is not stopped, eventually thre is no one left to tax or regulate, and then even government goes away.

  • Dr. Who4/29/2011

@Michael. Whoa are you misinformed. You mean the rich in the private sector who has had their incomes reduced by 50% while their counterparts in public service continue to get pay raises. Republican welfare, an old worn out liberal keepsake borne by liberals who hate capitalism. Michael most likely is a parasite who works for the government or doesn't work at all collecting benefits from the state. A true anti-American here folks, Michael Segers.

At last they are starting to talk about the right things, but probably too late for California. We will see if they are serious or if it is only photo ops.

The parasites have taken over alright. These vampires are called Democratic polticians and their environmentalist and union donators, sucking the blood of everyone who works. A stake in the heart is in order.
