California Schemin' by Kate George

California Schemin' is the hilarious sequel to Moonlighting in Vermont by Kate George and, once again, features the headstrong but lovable Bella Bree MacGowan. Schemin's a good old fashioned cozy mystery that infuses the author's witty sense of humor, plenty of suspense, some great writing, and an engaging and action-packed plot.

Poor Bree, trouble seems to follow her wherever she goes. Hot off the heels of a murder investigation in which she was the prime suspect, Bree travels across country in hopes to get away on a relaxing vacation with new boyfriend, Beau. Unfortunately for Bree, while bird watching one afternoon; she witnesses a murder in progress. Natch! Who hasn't gone on vacation and stumbled smack in the midst of a murder or two at one time or another? Even worse, the killers know there is a witness and will stop at nothing to find her and silence her for good! And when Bree is taken against her will, that's when the laughter really begins. Will Bree ever see her beloved animals again, her best friend or, for that matter, Vermont?

George's knack for creating really great three-dimensional characters, that are anything but mundane, is a breath of fresh air. It's hard not to admire Bree for her laid-back, stumble-into-trouble personality. After all, it's her adventurous ways coupled with her stubbornness that continues to place her in harm's way, giving George a winning combination for a truly entertaining read.

Schemin' hits the ground running and never lets up! Although a cozy murder mystery, George's comical sense of humor has the reader gripped in suspense on the one hand, and laughing out loud on the other.

California Schemin' is published by Mainly Murder Press and released March 2011. The first book in the series, "Moonlighting in Vermont", was published August 2009 and was the first place winner in the Daphne du Maurier Award in the Excellence in Mystery/Suspense category that same year. Kate is currently working on the next installment in the series, tentatively called "How Much is That Body in the Window" and also on a paranormal romance tentatively called "Glimmer Girls".

Kate George is originally from Sacramento, California and now lives in the backwoods of Vermont with her husband, four children, and many animals. In fact, her current home state is the setting for her Bella Bree MacGowan novels and her many jobs as a young adult are the basis for her main character's multiple occupations. Kate is also a member of Sisters in Crime.
