California State Stanislaus Students Want to Ban Sarah Palin from Campus Speech Due to Ideological Reasons

Marc Schenker
At California State University Stanislaus, a movement is building to ban Sarah Palin from speaking at the June 2550th anniversary of the Stanislaus campus. This movement includes not only a sizeable chunk of the student body, but also heavily ideological and biased professors, one of whom has actually started a Facebook page to consolidate opposition to Palin's June 25th event! What makes their opposition so objectionable is it flies in the face of everything a university's supposed to stand for-like challenging students to hear speakers who hold opposing viewpoints. To that end, two, little female Stanislaus students appeared on The O'Reilly Factor on Friday to try and make even a half-coherent argument as to why they want Palin banned. Like with all ideological and proselytized students, they utterly failed. Alicia Lewis and Ashli Briggs struck out, plain and simple, offering everything from flip-flops to repetitive mantras to meaningless absurdities in their failed attempt.

Insofar, the appearance by Lewis, a senior, and Briggs, a junior, was extremely invaluable in proving yet again that many of the so-called "students" at universities and colleges in the US are ideology-driven, cannot formulate an independent or reasonable thought to save their lives, and blurt mindless slogans that are quickly discredited by a more seasoned debater.

According to ideological student number one, Lewis, the student body's rejection of Palin as a speaker for the university's 50th anniversary has apparently nothing to do with her conservative ideology, but is based on the students' supposed desire to have a speaker who would "embrace" the community and reflect the 50th anniversary better. O'Reilly quickly reminded the little gals that Palin would actually be bringing money into the campus, so her appearance would be in fact beneficial, at least financially, to a campus that's already struggling with having to increase fees and cut certain classes. Lewis then, instead of addressing O'Reilly's very valid point head-on, strayed by bringing up an argument against the Palin appearance that was not hers to begin with, but was an old argument made by state senator Leland Yee, that Palin's speaking fee be disclosed.

O'Reilly wanted to see if the gals' opposition to Palin was rooted in ideology, so he asked, hypothetically, if a Howard Dean appearance at Stanislaus would garner as much protest from them as the upcoming Palin one has. After first ducking the question, on the second attempt, a reluctant Lewis answered that they would be protesting also. Hmmmm...that sounds almost fair and non-ideological, but are the girls telling the truth???

Batter up! Briggs, the junior, was up next, and she failed immediately when she blurted the meaningless slogan that she wanted someone who could bring their little, wittle community at Stanislaus "together," thereby directly implying that Palin would be divisive. Ahhh, but only a liberal ideologue would think a conservative speaker would be "divisive," so I think O'Reilly was right in not trusting the reasons these gals were giving. Finally, Briggs ended her first time speaking by trying to make a stupid joke-you know, to supposedly "smooth over" her unconvincing answer-by saying O'Reilly should be the speaker instead. But O'Reilly's maybe more divisive than Palin, so that would directly contradict her claim of wanting to have a speaker who would "bring together" the community. Ahahahaha...no, not funny Ashli!

Driving his argument that their rejection of Palin is heavily based in liberal ideology, O'Reilly delivered his best evidence yet: that the Facebook page set up by the protesting students and faculty at Stanislaus was attracting hate-filled, fanatically partisan comments that were actually making fun of Palin's Down Syndrome baby! If that doesn't say their movement of opposing Palin is based on ideology, you can't be helped. To their small credit, however, the little gals did say that they did try to delete the hate-filled comments on their Facebook page, but they had to balance that with all their obligations as college students, obligations which I will guess include dating, going to "partays," and...you know...protesting all the fee hikes in tuition instead of getting a job to help themselves.

As the interview was drawing to a close, O'Reilly (God bless the man for his tenacity) tried one, last time to pin down the little gals and extract the truth from them, alleging again that ideology was behind their rejection of Palin as a speaker on their campus. More frustratingly, Lewis again resorted to their first argument-discredited at this point for lack of corroboration-that they didn't want Palin because they wanted to focus on the anniversary itself and on "embracing" the college environment. But that immediately begs the question, Why doesn't Sarah Palin do all those things for Stanislaus? They didn't say...couldn't say, so left with that, it was looking like a case of two proselytized, liberal college girls who were unconvincingly covering up what their true motive really was. Briggs herself tried to again flip-flop into changing the subject, saying that their opposition was based on lack of transparency with regards to Palin's speaking fee, but that was just a rehash at that point.

Apparently, a couple of years back, Harry Belafonte, who regularly met with Hugo Chavez and called Bush the world's biggest terrorist (clearly making him a lefty/socialist), spoke at one of the California State University campuses, but there was nary a protest by students or faculty. All told, the interview served a great service to society by proving again that ideology-stubborn and illogical, left-wing ideology-rules the impressionable minds at college campuses. But when debated on it and called out on it, these proselytized, little students cannot independently or logically defend their arguments.

If you want to find intolerance and bigotry, look no further than the left. You will find it hidden there in buckets under their thin claok of hypocracy.

I think calling any President a terrorist is pretty insulting and maybe even disrespectful. I didn't like President Bush's policies with respect to the war on terror. But that doesn't give me the right to label him a terrorist. I have to admit I've said some pretty mean things about President Bush but I don't think I've ever gone that far. Good article. I happen to enjoy O'Rielly and watch him whenever I am visiting my friend. He's a conservative and we have some dang good debates! Keep up the good work, Marc!

Surfman968: Why did you refer to the President of the United States as "Obamalini"?? If he really were a dictator, like Mussolini, he would have you and Sarah beheaded. So, I guess he really isn't "Obamalini". You lack any intelligence because you cannot debate the Democrats in an intelligent manner. Nobody has to belittle you because you are already a mental midget. Sarah does incite violence in uncivilized people like you and she should be feared. There are voters out there that would consider voting Republican, but are scared off by the threat of violence stirred up by white trash like Sarah, the Tea Party and yourself.

They did really well considering the condition. They did alot better than some seasoned politicians. If you're idea of a good article is to bash college students practicing freedom of speech, then you shouldn't be a reporter. CSU is a public entity, and therefore all their information is deemed public information. The purpose of them was to get a person who HELPED the CSU, and to find out why The Foundation was hiding how much she got paid. You suck at life.

The real backlash of the Palin visit to CSU Stanislaus controversy should center around why two faculty members, Terry D. Jones, Associate Professor of Vertebrate Anatomy and Patrick A Kelly, Professor of Zoology, at CSU Stanislaus are the administrator and creator respectively of the a Facebook group with the express purpose of inciting the student body to protest Sarah Palin as a guest at CSU Stanislaus. Mr. Kelly in particular stated Palin "is widely regarded as anti-intellectual, and her polarizing rhetoric and intolerance of views that differ from her own run counter to the very idea of a university". This comment has consequently become the main talking point of the students on the Facebook group, and why wouldn't it? After all students are impressionable and therefore easily manipulated by ideologues like Kelly and Jones who in one breath decry tolerance of views different from one's own, while under the other incite impressionable students to be intolerant and protest the vi

"Why do you refer to the female college students as "little" in numerous places?"

Those who are intellectually lacking see belittling others as "elevating" themselves. Ad hominem attacks betray the fact that they have no fact-based rebuttal.

  • Surfman9684/5/2010

Sarah? Incite violence? It's not Sarah who is telling people to "Bring it on." and "Get in people's faces." That would be the fascist president. (Hint: it's not name calling, it is an accurate description of Obamalini's economic policies.)

No, the only way Sarah would be able to "incite" violence would be if people react violently to hearing the truth. Do not blame Sarah for other people's inability to act civilized.
