Weather forecasters say that the storms to hit on January the 20th and the 21st will probably be the strongest ones, which has many residents that live in areas subject to floods or mudslides very worried because the so called weaker storms have already caused mayhem.
I live in Laguna Beach in Southern California, and the intensity of the storms that have hit land has been felt by people all over the town. In fact, many people have mentioned tornadoes hitting the North Orange County area, which is just minutes away from where I am.
On Tuesday the 19th tornado warnings were issued from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. This warning was issued for towns going from Oceanside, which is closer to San Diego, to Anaheim, which is closer to Los Angeles. Many businesses were affected by the tornadoes brought by the storms, but even worse than that, floods all over the Southern California area left many drivers trapped in their cars.
Other accounts from witnesses talk about something that is rarely heard of in California, which are water spouts. A couple water spouts were captured by many on the Newport Beach and Huntington Beach areas. All and all this has really been a different type of rain for Californians, and I can account for that.
In the Laguna Beach area which is where I live, the wind gusts brought down several trees and firefighter sirens kept going off which indicates to me that many accidents or emergencies occurred while the storms where hitting hardest.
It is true that California needed some rain, but to get all this rain at once isn't the ideal way for us. Not only where we hit by many fires last year that left the land in an ideal state for mudslides but also getting so many inches of rain in such a short period of time makes it easier for floods to occur and we already started to see this.
The rest of this week and part of next week will bring more storms to California, and only then will we know what is going to happen to the already fragile drains and with the areas inclined to provoke mudslides. For now some seem to be preparing and in others unfortunately are evacuating to avoid any harm.

Post a CommentScary and unusual, apparently we will get a small break over the weekend, but on Tuesday next week we will go back to rain. Definitely not typical weather for California.
There was an AWFUL LOT of rain in San Diego. Palm fronds were flying and water RUSHED to get to the Pacific Ocean. I was driving through the worst of it on Monday, stayed indoors Tuesday, and today, Wednesday too. The storms seem to be intensifying. Scary.
