California Summer Camp Jobs

Working at a summer camp job means you not only get paid, you also have a chance to see some beautiful countryside and meet new, interesting people. Whether you're looking for a part-time job or full-time, there are plenty of opportunities to choose from. The five opportunities in this article will give you some ideas of how to make your summer both profitable and enjoyable.

Position #1: Camp Counselor
Location: 2 hours from the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in Northern California

Applications can be filled out online. Applicants from other countries besides the U.S. and Canada need to apply through one of the International Exchange agencies listed on the website. If you prefer a paper application, email becky@coppercreek.com .

Pay Rate: Beginning counselors can expect $285 per week without any certificates (except first aid and CPR) plus room and board. Health insurance is also provided.

Hours: Choose from one, two, or four week schedule

Licenses and Certification Needed: CPR & First Aid certificates are required. Staff should be over 21, but exceptions can be made. EMT's are encouraged to apply

Position #2: Counselor/Activity Instructor
Location: 9 miles south of Susanville

Applications can be downloaded.

Pay Rate: Staff pay scale starts at $200 per week plus room and board, laundry, and evening snacks. Specialists who head such activities as horseback riding, or aquatics are paid $230 per week.

Hours: Choose from one of four sessions, lasting about 3 weeks.

Licenses & Certification Needed: Must have completed CPR and First Aid training, or take courses during camp. Counselors must be at least 19 years old.

Position #3: Counselor/Cabin Counselor
Location: 75 miles east of Sacramento on the shore of beautiful Ice House Lake in the El Dorado National Forest

Applications are available online. 30% of staff is hired from around the world through international placement agencies.

Pay Rate: Cabin Counselors make $235 per week. You must be 19 years old or have completed one year of college. Counselors make $245 a week and must be 21. Returning counselors make an extra $20 a week.

Hours: Choose from 1-4 week sessions

Licenses & Certification Needed: CPR and First Aid Training is mandatory. Skills such as life guarding, ski boat driving, rock climbing, and self- defense are particularly desirable.

Position #4- Group Counselor
Location: Lafayette, CA

Staff Requirements:
Complete Season- 9 wks commitment
Previous Youth Leadership Experience
High Moral Character
Completion of freshman year of college, or equivalent
Excellent work/leadership references
Willing to work in a drug and alcohol free environment and to submit to testing
2 Friday night campouts

Pay Rate: $390-450 per week. 47-50 hours a week required.

Licenses and Certifications- Must have completed CPR and First Aid Training

Position #5- Paid Summer Guide
Location: Coloma, CA

Applications: Write a "snail mail" letter of introduction telling us who you are and why you are interested. Include date of birth ( if under 18), address, phone number, email address, and dates of availability.

Pay Rate: $64-$100 a day. Food and Tarp provided.

Hours: As needed, June thru August

Licenses & Certifications: None required.
