California's Delicious Cupcake Shops

SundiSC
Cupcakes are delicious, delightful, and small cakes that have enchanted dessert eaters for hundreds of years. For the past few years, many young professionals have ditched their careers in favor of creating a shop devoted entirely to cupcakes, and other sweet treats. I love cakes and cupcakes, so their stores are inspiring. Here are a few California cupcakepreneurs who have turned their passions into profit.

Vanilla Bake Shop

Vanilla Bake Shop, located at 512 Wilshire Boulevard, Santa Monica,California, was started by former T.V. executive, Amy Berman. Berman, 29, who worked as a production assistant for "Will and Grace", decided that her passion wasn't with television, but with baking. Crediting her mother for inspiring her love for baking, Berman went to culinary school and later opened her bake shop in 2007. Since that time she has appeared on "Martha Stewart" for her exceptionally tasty cupcakes. Berman credits her success to baking from scratch and using fresh, high quality ingredients.

Delilah's Bakery

This bake shop is owned and operated by Genevieve Ostrander, 34, a former beauty publicist. Although she loved her job, she couldn't resist her passion for creating sweet treats and sharing them with friends. So, she quit her job and started her company. Her gumption paid off, as she has seen sales increase. Although she still works very hard and long hours, she wouldn't trade her career for the world. Her shop is located at 1665 Echo Park Ave., Los Angeles, CA.

For Heaven's Cakes

This bake shop was featured on the Style network's Peter Perfect. Peter gave this bakery a makeover, and it was so beautiful and inspiring. Lisa Donahue, the owner, was a former stay at home mom of two boys when she began baking cakes out of her home. Her chocolate cakes were so good, and word of mouth brought loads of requests and orders for her cake. From there she took the launch into her own business with For Heaven's Cakes. Her success has been great, receiving rave reviews from customers, who keep coming back for more. This shop is located at 804 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks, CA.

These are just a few bake shops started and owned by young women who made a career change. All have admitted that they work just as long, or longer hours than they worked before, but, this time, they absolutely love it. As the saying goes, time flies when you're having fun. These shops, by the way, don't just create fabulous and delicious cupcakes, but sweet treats of all kinds. So, if you're ever in California, be sure to look up these shops and stop in for a tasty treat!
