Call of Duty: Black Ops

Xbox 360 Game Review

Walter Kovacs
Call of Duty: Black Ops is the newest Call of Duty game. It was announced earlier this year, and is possibly the most anticipated game of all time. Black Ops has good graphics, exceptional gameplay, and fixes all the problems the Modern Warfare 2 had.

Let us begin with the graphics of Black Ops. They are nice, but not spectacular. The graphics were better in Modern Warfare 2. The characters are slightly more blocky than they were in Modern Warfare 2, the reflection of light off of metal objects seems a little phony, and the glass is nowhere near as realistic as in this game's senior. Otherwise though, the graphics are top notch.

Next, there is the gameplay. This is where the game truly shines. Modern Warfare 2 had many major issues, all of which are fixed in this new game. For one, there is no "One Man Army," which was a perk that allows you to change your classes on the fly. People would use this perk, along with "Danger Close" (which increase the damage of explosives) to get an infinite amount of grenades for their grenade launches. These grenade launches were extremely overpowered in Modern Warfare 2. In Black Ops, there is no way to get more grenade launchers. The next fixed problem is that of Tactical Insertions. These would allow players to spawn next to each other repeatedly, kill each other, and then spawn again and continue to get kills. This is called "Boosting," and it ruins the game by allowing the "Boosters" to get high killstreaks, and therefore high killstreak rewards. Black Ops has taken Tactical

Insertions out of Free-for-All, which was the only game mode it was possible to boost in, therefore fixing the problem. The third and most important problem with Modern Warfare 2 was the unbalanced weapons. In Modern Warfare 2, all the weapons were overpowered, therefore encounters with other players were literally won by whoever saw the other person first, rather than gun skill, accuracy, and tactics such as usage of cover. In Black Ops, weapons are not overpowered, and each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. This said, not all weapons are equal. In my opinion, the Famas and the Galil are the two best weapons in the game because of their low recoil and high rate of fire.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the best Call of Duty game ever made. It will probably never be beaten, and is a definite buy. It takes actual skill to be good at it (as oppose to it's older brother, Modern Warfare 2), and it is actually a ton of fun! Oh, and don't forget, it has Nazi Zombies. I would rate this game a 10 out of 10. It is definitely not appropriate for children under the age of 15 years old.
